TTC After a Loss

Miscarriage and D&C - Weight gain?

Hello, first time poster here.  I just recently had a missed MC and D&C  (at 7 weeks).  Up until now, I had been really eating healthy and maintaining my weight through this short pregnancy.  Suddenly, I am 4 days post D&C and have put on 6 pounds!  Is this normal?  Yes, I have done some comfort eating but six pounds in four days seems pretty extreme.

On top of already being depressed, this is really bringing me down.  I feel so not in control of my body and so angry.
:(

Re: Miscarriage and D&C - Weight gain?

  • I was up about 9 pounds post D&C. At the time  I thought it was mostly bloat due to constipation but here I am 3 months later still not at the weight I was when I got my BFP even though I have lost some of that initial weight.

I have just over the last few weeks started to get motivated again. I am exercising, tracking what I eat but for a long time I just didn't care enough to do much about it. I had a good month of crying, sleeping and Nutella eating being my hobbies.

I guess what I am trying to say is even though being at a healthy weight is important in the overall scheme of things your emotional and physical healing from the miscarriage can take the front burner right now. When you are ready to get back to focusing on you it will come naturally.

Hugs. I am sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss. My weight has fluctuated a lot since my loss. I weighed myself 2 days ago and I was down 4 lbs.... Then today I was up 6 lbs.... I believe it is normal as our bodies adjust to the wonky hormones.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.

I did not gain any weight during my pregnancy and 10lbs immediately after my D&E. I do think it's the hormones that play this mean role. Give your body some time to re-adjust and keep to a healthy eating plan in the meantime.

Good luck and lots of hugs to you.

  • I think it's normal. My weight has fluctuated in the four weeks since my D&C and I've noticed that I'm much more bloated than normal (or when I was pg) as well, which I'm attributing to the wacky hormones going on right now.

I gained 10 lbs in the first couple months... mostly due to compfort eating. I have finally made to less than my bfp weight(which isn't great but it is a start). Be kind to yourself, you need time to heal.

  • Sorry for your loss. I lost weight initially after mine (I was in too much pain to function and survived on toast and applesauce for days), then post D&C I normalized, but suddenly I gained 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks (my D&C was 10 weeks ago). I think it must be whacky hormones (and possible stress eating) as that is a lot to put on suddenly on a 5'1" frame. Glad I am not alone!

  • I lost weight during my MMC and then immediately gained weight after my D&C.  I'm still trying to take it off, I figure it will take some time as my body is returning to whatever "normal" is.  I'm sorry for your loss, welcome to the board.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I had out on about 5 lbs in my loss pregnancy (I was 15 weeks when I had a d&c, and I hated to look at my body. I lost initially (from stress), then gained, then got on a workout/clean eating koan to take back control. Since beginning the workout program I'm down to below BFP weight. It will come, I'm 9 weeks post.

  • Water weight. Drink a lot of hydrating fluids, and avoid salt and sugar. Usually rapid weight gain is water... You can't eat enough calories to gain 6 pounds in 4 days.

  • I didn't have a D&C so I can't comment on that part for myself but in the two weeks since our miscarriage I've gained 8 pounds. I think it's mostly me though bc I've been comfort eating like a lunatic. Trying to get back on track today. My friends who he had D&Cs have def complained about bloating so maybe that's part of it. 6 pounds in 4 days def doesn't sound like pounds from fat. I agree with @AggieBeth06‌ - lots and lots of water to flush out!
  • @qanda2013‌ - I think your boobs are fabulous.

Mine has been fluctuating like crazy since my D&C almost four weeks ago. I didn't lose any of the weight I gained during my 9 week pregnancy (about 6 lbs). Then I lost a pound or two, today I feel like a whale again. My clothes not fitting is adding insult to injury at this point but I'm trying not to stress it.

  • I had my d&e 5 weeks ago, and I still am not back down to my "normal" weight. I am trying to eat healthy and exercising as much as I can when I feel up to it. My body is still not back to how it was pre pregnancy, hopefully it will go back to normal soon though.
