Multiples

After having multiple, when did you or will you TTC again?

I have 9 month old b/g twins from IVF. We only had two embryos that made it to transfer so we have nothing frozen. My husband and I decided not to do IVF again. (We had IVF due to unexplained MFI). My husband was retested a few weeks ago and his count went from 3 million(2 years ago) to now 70 million (almost normal, 80-120 million is normal). I'm 32 and he is 36. We would like to have another baby if it's in the cards for us.
How long after having your multiples did you wait to TTC again? I want to start in January so the twins will be 16 months when we start and at least 2 if it happens right away.

Us? Nope, nope nopey nope. Not another pregnancy. I have friends with almost 4 year old IVF twins and they are done, another has 3.5 year old twins, and about to give birth to a singleton, yet another states that she is done as well, her twins are 3.5 as well. We waited until our son was 2.5 before doing a failed FET, and then until he was 3.5 before the fresh cycle to get these twins. IMO I would wait until the older ones are more self sufficient.
  • No clue yet, but here's a link from this board when it was discussed a week or so ago :)

We're done. We had a singleton before the twins and we're all set with three.

I can't get on board w permanent BC for some reason, so I have mirena for the long haul. We are very lucky to have gotten pg very very easily both times and after having spontaneous fraternal twins, I'm not taking any chances.

  • We are done. Had a singleton first. She is 3.5 and the twins are 2 months. Three girls are more than enough for is!

I will say that I really like the age gap. It took us much longer than I thought to get pregnant with the twins. But DD1 being 3.5 has been nice. She is more independent.

  • My twins are spontaneous identicals. We thought we were done at 2. We decided one more of it was in the cards. We wanted to start trying around apr-may area so they twins would have been almost 2.5 when the next would come. Well things happened sooner than we thought and I'm currently 24+1 weeks pg with a singleton due in September. The twins will be almost 2 when their brother is born. It's going to be tough but I'm sure the girls will be great big sisters

  • My IVF twins are 18 months old and we are currently trying on our own until September when we can afford to use our frosties. For me, now is the earliest it even felt practical to consider another pregnancy or baby :)

Agree about the age gap. We have all boys and our big one was 3y2m when the twins were born. He's just over 4yo and the twins are just about 1yo and I really enjoy how independent the big one is when I'm chasing two mobile babies going in different directions.

I wanted at least a 3year age gap. I nursed the big one for 20mo and he's never been a good sleeper - who is also a very active, high needs kid - and I just didn't have it in me to try any sooner.

  • We have a singleton and are expecting twins very soon. We're done after these babies since they are technically our second set of spontaneous fraternal twins (my mother is a fraternal twin). DH figures 2 out of 3 pregnancies being twins means we need to stop! :) He wants a vasectomy, but it still feels so permanent...

When pregnant with our first set, we figured we'd wait until they were 2 to try for another. With DD we decided to try much sooner. We wanted our kids close in age and I know realistically you never know how long it can take to get pregnant so we started trying when DD was 9 months. It only took us 3 months to conceive!

Also, DD has a great temperament and is a wonderful sleeper (95% of the time), so we figured it was as good a time as any to try. She seems excited about meeting them though and I think she'll have a lot of fun in the long run with her siblings being so close in age.

  • We've always said three or four, but it'll be a few years at least...I feel kind of bad that the older three will be so close in age (less than 2 years between DD and the twins) then have a big gap, but it's what needs to happen. I suppose it could be sped up if things happen faster than anticipated career-wise and with finishing work on our starter home.

And of course DH is nervous that we'll be that 1-in-however-many-thousand couple that has more than one set of spontaneous identicals... ;)

  • We have a 5 year old daughter and twin daughters that turn 2 in a few weeks. They were all via IVF. We also had severe MFI send were given a 1% chance of conceiving on our own. Lo and behold when my twins turned 1 year old I found out I was expecting.....1% happened! I was petrified since I thought I was done.....twins neatly drove me batty. We know have a 12 week old baby boy and I can not imagine not having him, he is the easiest baby. My twins surprised me and adjusted very well to him.

Same here. We were also given a less than 1% chance of conceiving on our own, but as soon as I knew I had to have a c-section, I asked fo them to tie my tubes. If there's one thing that "cures" infertility, it seems to be IVF twins.

We do have a few frosties in case we changed our mind (which is how I convinced my OB I wanted the procedure. She had never before done a tubal ligation after a first pregnancy), but going through the infant stage has solidified our decision. Love my twins, but never want to go through this again.

  • We have two singletons and I'm pg with spontaneous identical twin girls. 4 is enough for us, we're done! If I have a C section I will be getting a tubal ligation.
  • @nobadwriting‌ I like mirena a lot. This is my second one - I had it in between pg as well. I BF, and didn't have a period until I partially weaned last time and even after I quit BFing, I spotted for a few hours every 25-27 days. I haven't had a period yet after the twins (we are still BFing) either. No other side effects really. It's been a good option for us.

  • We have a four year old DD and an (almost) 2.5 year old DS, and my twins are coming tomorrow.  We are done, and DH is getting a vasectomy this year.  I thought of trying something less permanent, but we conceived the twins while trying NOT to get pregnant, so I really don't want to take that chance again (especially since they are fraternal).  I always wanted 4; it just happened a bit sooner than I expected!

  • We have a 4 year old and almost 7 month old twin boys. We started the whole NTNP when they were 8/9 weeks but will actively start trying around the time they will be 18 months. 4 or 5 children is how many we would like.

  • I have wanted to since the boys were 2. They are 5.5 now and DH still hasn't felt ready. Granted, we've had a lot to deal with on top of the initial craziness of having two at once. I did have a surprise BFP and m/c last summer and for me, that only re-kindled the baby fever, but I'm not sure if DH will ever agree to TTC again. :(

We have a 7 yr old DS and 3.5 yr old DS and now we are expecting our twin girls mid July at the latest. The age gaps were not what we planned but since all if our kids are IF babies it was more if a money issue and being relocated for jobs. Now looking at the age gaps we are pretty happy our oldest is so excited and can understand and feel babies move. That being said we are done now.

  • I haven't had my twins yet, but we decided we'll give it about 9 months to decide if we want to try for more. If so, we'll try on our own for a few months then go ahead with IF treatments again.
It took about 2 years to get pg with these girls and honestly I'd be fine with a 3 year age gap between kids.
