Re: Numb fingers post delivery?

  • I have had it since about week 32. It's carpal tunnel syndrome. I have read that it usually goes away after birth, but some peoples' linger on. I've also read that it should go away within a couple weeks after birth. Mine is getting better but still lingering. My hopes for you!

  • I have it too. I read that if it is persisting at your 6 week appointment that you should talk to your doctor about it. Sometimes they will give you a brace, physical therapy, or surgery.

  • I have had it since mid-way through third tri, DS is now 8 days old. For me, I notice dropping things easily, and I have really bad wrist pain, esp in the morning! I hope it goes away soon.

I developed carpal tunnel syndrome around 32 weeks with my first, and it lingered an extra 10 or so days after delivery. It happens when fluid retention puts pressure on the nerves in the wrists. I didn't start seeing symptoms till around 34 weeks this time around and I gained less fluid overall, so I'm hoping it'll go away more quickly this time too.

  • My fingers are still numb and my son is almost 3 weeks old. It's definitely improved from how bad it was during the end of my pregnancy, but I'm frustrated that it's still lingering. Hopefully it improves by my 6 week postpartum visit, otherwise I'll be talking about it with my midwife.

  • I got pregnancy carpal tunnel in my left hand around 32 weeks. 11 days pp it's still lingering but not quite as bad, I'm hoping it goes away soon.

Good to know I'm not the only one. Mine are just numb on the tips of a few. I thought it might have been from holding onto the sheet or my legs so long and hard while pushing.
Thought it was the weirdest postpartum thing ever!!

I have this in my right hand, started week 37 or 38. My OB prescribed a wrist brave and while it didn't stop it completely, my fingers didn't get a numb when I wore it. I would definitely talk to your doctor about it. I am one week pp and still have it.
