Today I got sick at work, so I left early to come home and rest. Only thing is, home isn't home when someone breaks in and leaves your house a disaster... I've never felt so scared in my life....what is one to do besides sit and wait for the police to show up..

Oh no!! I'm so sorry this happened to you! My DH had his truck broken into and they stole the garage door opener. They broke into our garage, which is directly attached to the house, and stole a bunch of stuff. Someone came home and scared them off or I'm sure they would have made it into the house. The garage is just a garage though, not my house. I know I felt so violated and it kept me up at night for a long time. I can't imagine it being my house. I'm sending lots of hugs your way

They are just things, even the rings. I'm glad everyone is ok. The police found finger print so hopefully they find whoever it was.

My neighbors house was broken into a few years back, and that was too close for comfort for me, I still struggle to sleep some nights and every night time noise is suspect to me. This neighborhood used to be so wonderful, but now there are a lot of druggies and scary prowlers. I grew up in this house, and now DH and I live here to help care for my grandma until our house is ready in September. Hopefully she will move in with my mom at that point because I worry about her being alone at night. Hell, I don't like being alone at night in this neighborhood either!!

I will be calling an alarm company today I don't know if I'll ever feel safe in that house, I mean I'm sure I will but it will take a while... I planned on starting a family and letting it grow there, not I'm not sure....I have to sit there today and wait for an insure agent to come and estimate the damages.

Oh no! That's terrible, and i'm so sorry. My moms house was broken into a few years ago. They stole the tv and a few other things. You do just feel so violated and scared. It was a terrible feeling. I hope you get everything figured out and reclaim some peace of mind.

We are now looking into getting an alarm system with cameras to monitor outside as well as inside.

Oh man, that really sucks!  I understand how you feel and would also look into an alarm company ASAP. 

I had my apartment broken into years ago when I was in college.  They didn't touch my laptop or tv but stole a bunch of my jewelry - some of it heirlooms that had been given to me by my grandma.  It was really disappointing to loose some stuff but much worse to not feel safe where I lived.  They also took weird things like some of my underwear and clothes, so I felt really intruded on and shaken for weeks.  The police only freaked me out even more when they came and didn't really do anything to figure out how the intruder got in or try to take prints or anything.  I remember sleeping with pepper spray under my pillow for a few nights, which was when I knew it was time to look for a different apartment.  At least you own your home and can get some security added to make you feel more comfortable.

Your insurance should cover replacement on your things right?  I know mine did, but it's not like you can really replace things with sentimental value. It sucks that it had to be your wedding bands of all things that they took.  Maybe you and DH can turn it into something better though - plan a date night out when your replacements come in and he can give them to you again?

I second contacting the pawn shops about the rings. Many diamonds have a number etched in somewhere or if you had an inscription on the band.

Aww… that is so terrible. I'm so sorry you have to go through this. I can't imagine how scary it was to walk into that, especially when you're already sick. Take care of yourself.
