Car Seat Help

So, we have a new Honda Odyssey. DD is currently rear facing in the second row behind the passenger seat. We're trying to figure out where to put the twin car seats though. Originally, I thought of leaving DD where she is and putting both twins in the 3rd row, and taking out the seat behind the driver so it will be easier to get to the twins. But I'm not sure having the babies so far away is good. Would it be better to have both babies in the middle and DD in the 3rd row? What have you all done in a similar situation? I don't like the idea of putting DD all the way in the 3rd row when the babies aren't even here yet; seems so far to me!

BTW DD is 19 months for those on mobile and I'm almost 31 weeks along, so I'm wanting to get the car seats in the car! Thanks for any advice!

I have nearly the same age gap between my kids. We put DD in the 3rd row passenger side, one twin 2nd row passenger side, and the other 3rd row driver side. We took the captain seat out behind the driver for ease loading the car and because DH is tall, now he can scoot his seat as far back as needed. It works really well for us this way.

  • Thanks @kjkarats03 but out of curiosity, is your DD forward or rear facing? I feel like with her being so far away, forward facing would be easier, but I'd like her to stay rear facing. And do you always leave the same twin in the middle or kinda switch it up so the one isn't always so far away?

She is almost 3 and just switched to forward facing. When the twins were born she was rear facing. She didn't seem to mind the back row since she had a baby brother with her. We switch the twins' rows all the time.

We put both babies in the second row and ds in the 3rd row behind the driver. He was forward facing but it was easier to climb in back and buckle him up than to lift a car seat into the 3rd row. Originally we had ds in the 2nd row and took a captains chair out and put both babies in back, and it was just too hard to constantly lift a seat back there. Plus, there was no way I felt comfortable having the babies so far back where no one could reach them unless I stopped the car

We have all 3 in the middle row (DS is FF behind passenger). We haven't actually gone anywhere with them all (twins are 8 days old) but they all fit well.
  • Following.  We will be purchasing our Honda Odyssey soon, and I guess I need to figure this out.

  • I'm looking at an Odyssey and was thinking of putting DD FF in the second row, taking out a seat in the second row so it's easy to get to the back and putting the babies in the 3rd row. I'm not sure I really like having infants so far away, but I would like DD within arms reach so I can talk to her and pass her things if needed, etc.

  • Our kiddos have the same age gap.  We decided for forward face DD when the twins arrived.  I wanted to RF longer, but it's just been easier to have her in the third row.  We have the twins in the second row behind the passenger and driver and DD in the third row.  This seems to work pretty well.  DD will hop into her car seat on her own and I can lean over and buckle her in without having to actually get in the car.  In the beginning we did have issues with her dropping her blanket/toy/water bottle and crying because she wanted me to pick it up for her.  But now she knows....once we're driving she's not gonna get it back until we arrive at our destination.  This works for us for now, because I sometimes will have to sit in the second row if the babies are fussing while DH drives, or if I'm by myself I have easy access to pull over and easily access a crying baby in the second row.

  • We have a 2011 odyssey and all three car seats should fit in the middle row although we have not installed them yet (too soon) that was our plan

  • We are getting the 8 seat Honda odyssey and will put DS rfing behind the driver, a twin next to him in the middle and will remove the third seat in the second row. The second twin will go in the 3rd row and I can sit back there also and be able to reach all three kids. We did a test run on this and I liked it. DS will be rearfacing for a long time yet and I like having him on the side so it is easier to buckle him. Don't know what we will do when the twins moved into convertibles yet.
