Moving rooms at daycare

My 18 month old recently changed rooms at his daycare.   He just started his 2nd full time week in that room and every morning as soon as we walk past his old room, he stops walking, pulls my arm and says "no" over and over.   He cries nonstop from the time we walk into the room and still crying when I leave.   He used to love going to his old room, would run in, sit down and eat breakfast, waving goodbye to me.  He seems fine and happy when we pick him up and they say he has a good day, but it breaks my heart.  They have one teacher in there in the morning (though I believe she is the cook and just fills in throughout the day in different rooms) - she always grabs him away from me before even letting me kiss him goodbye.   I realize you shouldn't linger in the room, and that just causes more of a meltdown, but it seems a little harsh.  Anyone else have an issue like this ??    My son likes routines and I'm hoping its just getting used to a new one and he'll calm down soon.....

My LO had a horrible time transitioning to her new room when she turned 1 year and it took about a month for her to stop breaking down crying when I left. She would be fine all day and get distracted within a minute of me leaving but it's so hard to walk away from her. Kids get attached at this age and are afraid of strangers he'll get better. As for the caregiver ripping him away, just ask her to hold on one minute hwen she starts walking toward you. I need my good bye kiss and hug and then I would hand her off. That's not their place even though I'm sure good intentions are behind her actions.

I am dreading this.  We were fortunate, that the moved up her whole class from infants to wobblers at 7/8 months. The teachers too.  So in the next 2-4 months we will be making the transition.  The rumor is that at least 4 of them will go at the same time and I am hoping that helps.  But I am not looking forward to it.  We are usually the first to drop of and the first to pick up, so she will be alone for a few minutes before her friends get there.
