Dilation and Effacing - Week of May 12 Check In

I am 34w2d and I found out last week that I am 1cm dilated and 50% effaced.  Wondering if anyone else is progressing as well?  I'd love to hear how dilated and/or effaced you are. 

I know its a crap shoot in predicting when baby comes but I think its exciting!

I was last checked a couple weeks ago at my 35w appt & my cervix was shut tight! I was kind of bummed!

I'd be ok with this as a weekly thread which is kind if creepy I want to keep track of everyone's cervix.... But it's still interesting to me even though it doesn't mean much .

We could make this the week of May 12th check in. Maybe put that in the subject?

I was supposed to start mine today (35w5d) but at my appt my OB said well since you're having a csection I'm not even going to bother checking you. fine by me! the less stuff up there the better!

@ohyeahlovely I was having a lot of pain and cramping so the dr checked.  My mom dialted early and needed to go on bed rest, so the dr was checking me to make sure the same thing wasn't happening to me.  Plus I am a high risk pregnancy and any info that could help them make any decisions to keep my little man safe and happy is ok by me.

I'm 38 weeks today so I'm really just playing a waiting game at this point. I will have my 2nd check tomorrow. Hoping for some progress just because I have nothing else to do but wait

I haven't been checked yet. I have my 37 week appt on Friday, so I may get checked then. Who knows!

I feel like this is one of those things like the old wives tales about sex prediction, means absolutely nothing, but it gives us something to do.  I don't think my midwives check until labor or if I go past my EDD.

I was checked at 36+4 and was a 3. I have been checked a couple times due to preterm labor concerns. I go back to doc Thursday and I will be 37+4 so we will see if things change. I am having some contractions but nothing to time yet.

My doctor checked me last week and I hadn't made any progress yet (35w5d) I go back this week and he said a lot can happen in a week. I am curious to see what happens bc I went into labor 12 days early with my last two.

I was checked last week (36w) - she said "nothing, you are closed and high." I was kind of disappointed, I know it doesn't mean jack, but still!

I'm having my GBS test at tomorrow's appointment, so while I know it doesn't mean much at this point, if they offer a cervical check while I'm already ass out, I figure I might as well purely out of curiosity.

My doctors have changed their policy and internal exams are optional now, unless there's a concern. I've opted out so far. They've meant nothing to me in the past. I'm always told zero progress, and with both of my previous deliveries, I was holding my baby the day after "zero progress".

Only got checked because of crazy contractions one day. I was 34+5 with twins. I was starting to efface. I was 2cm and 80%, two weeks later today I am 3cm and still 80%. I was so hoping to have progressed!

At 36 weeks last Monday I was 1 cm and at my 37 week appt today I'm 3 cm and my OB decided to go ahead and strip my membranes. I'm still kind of in shock. I guess he thought that's good progress and wanted to try to get things going even more??

Very interesting! I was going to ask my OB about membrane stripping tomorrow to see when that's an option and how far you have to be etc. I'm a FTM so I don't know much about it timing wise

37 weeks and at 1 cm. with no effacement.  Wonderful!  Doesn't matter much since I'll be having my RCS next Friday, the 23rd

I'm a FTM too and I was totally surprised when he said that's what he was doing. If you can get more info from your OB- please share! I was too shocked to even think about asking why.

I'm a high risk pregnancy and a scheduled csection so my dr has been checking due to irregular contractions since 35 weeks which I was 2cm dilated 0% effaced. Went today for my 37 week check up and am 2cm & 70% effaced. Dr says he doesn't think I will make it to the 27th and thinks I will be having baby by next week. Due to my fistula, they can not risk me going into labor because last 2 pregnancies I progressed fairly quickly after my water broke.

My OB doesn't do any vaginal checks either.  Once they explained it didn't really mean anything, I understood- but I'm still curious!  Oh well, one less day to worry about shaving!

I'm only 33 weeks 2 days, so all of this talk of stripping membranes and dilation is scaring the bejeezus out of me! I know we have had some early outside babies come, but is it really that close to go-time for the rest of us? I think I am in denial....  @-)

Stripping your membranes could induce labor so I'm surprised he did that. Usually I hear of drs doing it after 39 weeks or if your past your due date. Maybe he had another reason though.

I'm getting checked tomorrow...37+2 but expect much of a change. I was 50%effaced and not dialated last week. I had the same progress with DD#1 around 36+5 and my water broke 2 days later.

36w3d, 3cm 70% effaced. Hoping something happens soon so I can avoid a C-section next week.

Have not been checked yet this pregnancy but I will ask them to check me when they do my GBS test on the 22nd, I will be 36 +1 at that time. I know it doesn't mean much but I'm so curious!

Only know this because I was hospitalized last week: 1cm dilated and 30% effaced. First real cervix check is in two weeks and I'll be 36 weeks then.

I had my GBS test today and my dr went ahead and checked me since I have been having contractions on and off. I am 2cm, 50% and she could feel baby's head but didn't tell me a station. I am 35 weeks exactly, and my dr said she didn't think I would make it out of May pregnant, so we shall see. I think it means I wil end up being pregnant until July!

Why on earth would a doctor strip membranes at 37 weeks? The longer your baby makes it to 40 weeks, the better! I'd be pissed if my doctor did that.

@wimb01‌ no idea- he gave no reason for it. It hasn't had much of an effect at least (that I'm aware of).

i got checked Monday and it killed! i spotted after and cramped which caused me to worry I was going into labor.  not cool.  Also i was only 1.5cm and 50% effaced.

3 cm and 80% effaced at 37 weeks. I've had a lot of irregular contractions lately so I guess it's nice to know that my body is making progress? The week before I was 2 cm and not effaced.

I got checked last week because I mentioned I had a few cramps. They told me at 33 weeks that I was a fingertip dilated, got hooked up to all the fetal machines and stuff and found out I was having contractions I couldn't feel at 3 min apart. This week, they said they didn't check me because my internal ultrasound (has anyone else had one of those yet?!)  said my cervix was normal.

I had my check today last Monday I was 1cm 50% -2... Well all that hoping for higher numbers did nothing. Today I was the exact same. I think the universe got confused with my number increase request. My BP was high again so I get to do the lovely 24 urine collection again.

Universe I want a higher dilation, not blood pressure.

I was 1cm today. Ob did the check and then didn't say anything which I thought was weird, so I asked. She just said that was normal for a STM at this time in pregnancy (36weeks).
I know these checks don't mean much, I was a fingertip up until 37 weeks last time, then at 38 I was "closed up tight" and told I would be pregnant for a "few more weeks." Needless to say, 4 days after that appointment I was in labor.
