Cloth Diapering

Should I buy this pail and liner?

In return for you ladies convincing me to buy the Kawaii P&N's (should be here Monday! yay!)  instead of using disposables for my newborn, can you please give me some advice on if I should purchase this pail and liner?

I am purchasing BG 4.0 in excellent used condition for $12/each from a local woman. She also has the following pail and liners available for sale.

She is selling white pail for $30 and both liners for $17 (one black and one silver).

Is this a fair price? Do I need these?

I have a small 2 bedroom house so not a lot of space. I like the idea of diaper pail but is there a more affordable, space saving option?
Since my house is small and laundry room is in closet off living room, I do not want diapers to smell so maybe buying this cloth diaper specific pail would be beneficial?

Help! Thanks!!

  • I keep my poop diapers in a hanging bag on the doorknob in the bathroom. It's unzipped and there's no stink. That garbage can looks huge!
  • $17 seems fair for the liners but you can buy a brand new kitchen size trash can for $30 or less. I was looking at something like this because of its slimmer profile and a lot of the ladies have good luck with swinging lids. https://www.target.com/p/hefty-13-3-gal-pivot-lid-waste-can-black/-/A-12719967#prodSlot=medium_1_35

You could also do a hanging wet bag like this one to save some space.    https://www.nickisdiapers.com/planet-wise-hanging-wet-dry-bag.html

  • kitchen trash can works just fine. I have one from college where my friends decorated with a sharpie.

  • Skip the pail. Buy a Walmart 13 gal kitchen can for $20. You don't want to lid it anyway. That's what causes it to smell. It needs to breathe and get airflow so it won't smell. And you can get Planet Wise bags new for $17. Maybe if you can get her down to $14 or $15 and they are practically new it would be worth it.

  • I just got a small (7.3g) sterilite kitchen trash can from wal-mart. I think it was at least under $10 and it holds all my dirty NB dipes to wash EOD. I also leave the lid off and don't have any stink issues.
Planet wise pail liners are what I use. You will definitely need two. My DS's have held up nicely for almost year. No delaminating or leak issues. I just throw them in the wash with my dipes and then hang dry them. It takes a day for them to get dry. Can't say how they'll be buying used as I bought mine brand new. Hopefully, someone can give more insight on that.

  • I also agree, skip the pail and get a regular trash can. I bought mine at Walmart for like 15 bucks. Mine came with a swing lid, so it's closed but allows air flow. I've never had any stinks.

Also the liners, unless they are new.. Never used that doesn't seem worth it to me. You can buy them new at that price. In fact, if you look around you can find them on sale and get a good price that way.

  • I think she said $17 for both liners, so I took that to mean $8.50 each.  Of course it depends on the condition.  You're using these every day so you want them to be in good shape.

  • Oh, if it is $17 for both and they are in good condition I would get them.  Ask how she dried them.  Dryer or hanging?

I think that 2 liners for that price is a good deal and that is something that I would be okay with buying used. I bought a simple Rubbermaid trash can for my diaper pail for about $10 and it is all that I need. The smell stays in and it has a push button for the lid.
