Another latch question

I posted a latch question about 2-3 weeks ago, but I'm still having issues. My baby girl is 7 weeks old and we are still having trouble with our latch. Her mouth has been checked for tongue ties and anything else that would interfere with breast feeding and everything seems to be fine. I have seen several LC and they all get her latched on fairly quickly but I cannot seem to do it. I had to get a prescription for APNO today because my nipples hurt soooooo bad. I can't seem to get a deep latch. I have watched several videos from Kellymom and other online videos, but still can't get it. As soon as I get her on, I make sure her lips are flanged out but it still isn't quite deep enough. I'm afraid I will never get this and I'm not sure how much more pain I can take. I want to enjoy the feedings and I'm just not sure we are ever going to get there. Any advice is appreciated!!

That's so frustrating, I'm sorry to hear that things are still difficult and that you're still in pain.  @scooter028 has some great tips about suck training and seeing an ENT.  If you are able to, I would keep seeing LC's and practicing with them present.  My LO had latching issues in the beginning but he also had a mild case of being tongue-tied.  Best of luck, hang in there!

Thanks for the advice. I know she can latch on and eat because we have done it before..... Should I try a nipple shield just to have a break from the pain???

I wouldn't do a nipple shield without an LC's recommendation.  It could make things worse.

What position are you using to nurse?  I always used cross-over and kind of "pushed" the baby on a little further once/as he was latching.

I have a fast let down, so I start with her sitting up and then once she is latched on I lean back so it doesn't come at her to fast. How do you push her on after she latches??

I always just sort of nudged the baby's head, to make sure the latch is deep enough.  I did it while they were latching.

Maybe try latching her leaned back more?  I know that gravity is supposed to help them get a deep latch (at least until they're older and can do it themselves).

Thank you so much for posting this I am in the same boat and have had a plugged duct AND milk blister I'm assuming from poor latch! My LO is also 7 weeks but I just don't get it. I've had tongue and lip ties revised and seen LC. Sorry I'm no help but I look forward to other mommies' answers!

I actually have an LC coming to my house tmrw to see if she can help me with the latch. Lets hope she can help!!

Are you sure the latch is bad? My nipples hurt like crazy until about 10 weeks. I assumed it was the latch and went to the lactation consultant to get help. She kinda made me feel crazy because she said my latch was fine and that I'd get over the pain. Later I found that the truth was that my LO had a high (or bubble) palette. No real fix but to wait for the baby to get bigger. The pain did stop, though. Check it out; it may be what is behind the pain.

The LC came and said she thinks the baby need to have her frenlum clipped. We have a consult with an ENT on Tuesday, so we will see if it is a problem. Thanks for the input everyone!!
