  • Unless house = trailer on parents' property.

Excellent point. Or even one that you have to pay lot rental on.

Even so, what 14/15 year olds are that responsible to save money for a home? I mean I guess it could happen but it's the minority not the norm.

  • Can a 14/15 year old even have a real job? Do you think they were stashing babysitting money as a home savings or putting aside paper route dollars? More than likely a 15 year old would spend money on movies, music and clothes.

  • Getting medicaid is unfortunately, extremely easy to sign up for.  I have a coworker that every March will stop working 40+hrs and work less than 20 hrs/week for the whole month.  She then sends those pay stubs in and is on Medicaid.  This is someone who makes approximately $22/hr (that's the minimum for when she was hired and what I was making, but she had more experience than me so I'm guessing she makes more.) That equates to over $40,000 a year without overtime.  It makes me sick.

However, I still can't get the house thing.

Your math is broken. $22/hour at 20 hours a week is $22,800/year.

That is barely above FPL for a family of 4 and at part time she wouldn't be eligible for medical benefits from most employers.

And no, it's not that simple. Maybe you need to get your nose out of other people's business because you clearly don't know the whole story here. Or you need to be reporting the fraud that you have been turning a blind eye to. That makes you just as guilty.

I'm saying she works 20 hrs/week for that MONTH - the other months she works 40+.
Ah. So why are you not reporting her fraud?

And I'm still surprised she gets it. DH's 21 year old great niece with a kid (that she doesn't have custody of) and no job doesn't qualify.

I have considered reporting her and gone back and forth in my mind.  She does have a child and with what I've seen of her priorities I'm nervous she just wouldn't get insurance OR pay for medical bills.  I feel like I'm in between a rock and a hard place.  She's obviously cheating the system and stealing from society, but if something happened to her child because of me reporting her I don't know how I could deal.   She may"qualify" for medicaid with her under 20 hours/week for the month because she does have a child.  IDK I'm still weighing the options.  For me, it's a hard position to be in.

Like @‌empireceo my midwives accept VBAC candidates. Our hospital and clinic are primarily midwife care with OBs who handle the high risk pregnancies and c/s deliveries. They also want a minimum of 18 months between deliveries for VBAC to be considered.

Yup -- My MWs are supportive and encouraging of my VBAC.
(Posted this then saw the direction the thread took... You guys haven't been saving thousands per year since ninth grade??)
