I don't want to start a debate and I have no personal feelings on the matter of the circumcision debate, other than I don't really care what other people do with their kid's penis as long as they leave me alone for circ'ing my son - but it bugs me that a few people I know give me crap about circumcision because its body modification without consent, and then pierce their little girls' ears. I know its not nearly the same, but at that age piercings are generally going to be permanent. It just...bugs me.
I know its not nearly the same, but at that age piercings are generally going to be permanent. It just...bugs me.
I had my ears pierced as an infant, chose to stop wearing earring around seven, and had to get my piercings redone at nine because they closed up. So not nearly so permanent.
Hence "generally" & "not nearly the same." It just bugs me when people give other people grief and then do something to their child in a similar realm, because piercing is body modification, even if its slightly less permanent and less 'extreme.'
In the same vein, I hate it when someone antivax gets all up in arms that people are telling him/her its bad for the child that they aren't vaccinating, and then proceed to tell me that I am permanently harming my son for vaccinating when my stance on the matter is, "its your kid."
It bugs me when people are anti-vax without really doing their research on it or b/c it's become some kind of trendy baby issue. Because of these people outbreaks of diseases like measles are coming back after being basically eradicated for decades, and children are dying from it.
Ok here it goes. I don't care about how people spell the names of their kids. I respect those who do, but I'm just not one of them. Furthermore I don't think I'll ever care what TB has to say about what I name my kid. Both the boy and girl name we have picked out are pretty common with common spellings, but if I wanted to spell them differently I would and wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
N14 October Siggy Challenge: How I feel in the third trimester (especially when DH eats my pregnancy food)
We chose not to circumsize but do not have anything against people choosing to do so. If we have a girl I would probably pierce her ears at some point (not sure when, not an infant though). We aren't opposed to body modification, we just didn't see a need to circumsize.
I don't think that formula should be available on WIC without a note from a doctor and/or a lactation consultant.
I disagree. I'm Pro-BFing all the way, and I do believe we should give women assistance with it- access to lactation consultants and pumps. However, as a mom who has pumped at work for 2 kids, in a supportive office environment, I can not imagine how a woman working an hourly minimum wage type job could possibly be successful at pumping. Even if she continued to EBF at home, formula even just for daycare, gets expensive fast.
I know CD is really popular, but I'm not sold on it. I may end up being a disposable diaper user.
We cloth diaper. I initially wanted to do it to save money, and it does save a lot. But I thought cloth diapers wouldn't be as good as disposables, and it would be a trade-off cost for quality. Turns out, cloth dipes are so much better! We hate using disposables now, they don't work as well and they reek when they are wet. And we don't have to worry about running out of diapers and having to make an emergency run to the store.
I think traditional names are boring.. Have a bit of originality.. We have like 6 johns, 4 Malik's and 3 Kelly's in my sons 3rd grade. I get flamed sometimes for naming my son "Harlem" guess I should have named him James or tyreek idk lol

one issue i have with cloth diapering is that both dh and i work full time. my child care situation will most likely be my mom and MIL and i feel like it's awkward to ask them to wash out pee and poop from a cloth diaper. i'm sure they would if i asked them to but it seems regular diapers are much easier. i should mention im not really educated on cloth diapering

I think because my mom ran a daycare in our home while I grew up and the fact that I had 12 nieces and nephews and four great nieces and nephews, along with raising my step-son from the time he was 5 y/o, I didn't fall into that. I'd seen it all and done a lot. I have friends that have never been around children other than themselves growing up and they seemed to be the most opinionated, it's humorous to see it unfold.

I'm a FTM and I feel like I'm not that opinionated on baby related matters other than vaccines. I realize that just because I very much want to BF doesn't mean it will work out, and I know that my labor may not go anything like I want/plan. Your post comes off rather condescending to FTMs (whether you meant it that way or not).
I also feel some things such as vaccines have nothing to do with FTM vs STM. I am 100% going to vaccinate my children, because I've done the research and I know vaccines save lives. Do I get a little fired up about the vaccine debate - sure. Although I think that is a lot more important than how you feed your baby and your labor plans. I think it's dumb you can choose not to vaccinate your children and cause them or those too young to be vaccinated to get sick or even die.

We send cloth diapers to daycare too. We have a zippered wetbag for them to put the dirties in. It's no different for them than doing disposables, except ours go in a bag and not the trash.
Pee doesn't need washed out ahead of time. Neither does breastmilk/formula poop. When baby starts on solid food, that's when you need to dump and/or spray diapers in the toilet before they go in the wash.
It only takes us like 2 minutes when we get home to empty the wetbag into our main diaper pail and dump/spray the poopy ones.
I don't think that formula should be available on WIC without a note from a doctor and/or a lactation consultant.
This I disagree with. I'm in Canada and don't know what WIC is, but I'm assuming it's welfare? While I am 100% pro-BF'ing for my own personal life I don't feel like I have any right to tell someone else how they can or cannot feed their child. BF'ing isn't for everyone, and doesn't work for everyone's lives.

I am a FTM and agree. I try not to push my opinions on other people, but I quietly judge more than I should. I know I am naive and have a lot to learn. Witnessing a lot of close friends and family have babies over the last several years I have learned a lot. But there is probably still a lot to learn.

I so love this!!??? I had a girl tell me once while pregnant she would only use the best diapers and she wasn't using any cheap diapers on her baby. Child please. With no job, what exactly do you think is going to happen when you run out all your shower diapers? You think those people going be dropping Huggies & pampers at your doorstep every week. Smh.

I have no desire to CD, but my MIL CD-ed all 4 of her kids. So when she babysits, she still dumps poop out of a disposable diaper into the toilet before throwing the diaper away.
If it's something you're interested in, I would ask your moms what they think.

The reason why the pro-vaccination movement doesn't get dropped is that many people believe that not vaccinating children is a public health issue rather than just a parenting one. Those who choose not to vaccinate aren't just potentially harming their own children, they're also taking herd immunity away from those who aren't able to vaccinate for health/age reasons.
My uo I really cannot stand when people post a T&P post or a spotting post and then never come back to update.
If they get bad news, I can completely understand them not coming back. When I m/c'd last year, the last thing I wanted to do was click on the BMB of the baby I lost.

I don't CD myself, though I am contemplating it for this one.
I could be wrong, and that is very likely, but I'm pretty sure that you are supposed to dump the poop out of disposable diapers before putting them in the trash anyways. Something about human waste and the spread of disease if it is put in a land fill. Clearly I've done a ton of research on it.
Maybe in an ideal world. No one IRL does that except my MIL. I can also guarantee you that they don't do it at daycares.

Im a FTM and I'll admit I don't know squat about parenting. But I can't agree with you about not having an opinion on vaccines. That's science, not parenting. Vaccines don't cause harm but not vaccinating can kill your kid or someone else's. People who don't vaccinate are dumb. I'm hoping to find a pediatrician who refuses to care for kids who are not vaccinated. I don't want to sit in the waiting room with your kid who might have measles.

This is very true, opinions on vaccines are not something that you change based on your experience as a parent.

Up front I do vaccinate my child for most things but there are some that I have skipped (Flu, Chickenpox, Hep B at birth).
Regarding the bold though - I have family members who have been harmed by vaccines. Heavy metal poisoning and compromised immune system due to vaccines. You can say what you want but vaccines can cause harm. This is why my child(ren) will only get certain vaccines. (and yes I have researched this)
Also calling people that don't vaccinate dumb is ridiculous. You don't know why they are not. You can't blanket statement like that. I stayed out of the debate until now when the name calling comes out. I have my research and personal experience behind me and you won't change my mind on these.
The child with heavy metal poisoning has been doing heavy metal cleansing for 6 years and they are almost healed. Getting even one vaccine can force them to start the process over again.

Amen. I may know nothing about parenting, and I'm okay admitting that--but vaccines come down to science, and that's something I'm not willing to chance. No opinions on parenting will change that.
