Re: Panorama Testing

  • Frankly, I think it's funny that I'm the one being called a bitch but somehow I'm supposed to leave OP alone? :-? image
You just brought back a part of my childhood with that gif.  :x

Isn't that how it always works?

Thank you for the excitement!  At the coaxing of my MFM I finally looked at the ultrasound today. We are SO hoping this is finally it!

To the original poster...back to your original subject. I had the verifi test done...from what I understand it's the same thing as panorama. I too am concerned about its accuracy. This is my second pregnancy and during 18 week ultrasound they found choroid plexus cysts...my MFm doc said he's not concerned but said this test was an option if I became concerned. Due to my daughters history of congenital bowel obstruction, I am worried that there may be something wrong this time around also. Since you got your results are you feeling more comfortable with its accuracy? I'm still waiting on mine, and would appreciate hearing your feelings about it all...I can imagine how difficult it must be

There's actually a lot of really good information in this thread about these tests; did you read any of it?  At the end of the day, the tests are accurate.  They are much more accurate than markers found on an u/s.  The only thing more accurate is a karyotype done via amnio or CVS.

Thanks. I read though most of it...tried to skip over the irrelevant stuff. I read some studies about the testing accuracy but they seem to be funded by the companies that do the tests so I worry about bias. With my previous experience it's hard not to be a little paranoid
  • OP-  I am very sorry that you received bad new regarding the health of your baby.  I really am.  But the first thing you wrote was that you were having a girl and what was the accuracy.  You never mentioned any health concerns and no one here is a mind reader.  We can only go by what you tell us.  You were told that the test is 99% accurate.  What else can we tell you?  If you are concerned about whether the "99%" is true or not you need to research actual studies done on that, not ask us.  It took me all of 30 seconds to find 3 different studies done that said the accuracy of the tests is 99%.   And none of those studies were done by the manufacturer.

I'm honestly not sure why I'm trying to give you the benefit of doubt because you are the one being nasty and rude.  But I am going to assume (and it will probably bite me in the ass) that you are scared about the health of your baby and that's why you're being nasty.

I sincerely hope that your baby is okay.

If you don't trust the test or studies I advise discussing invasive testing with your MFM as that is the only 100% definitive answer. This is a discussion for your treatment team. Also, keep in mind that these tests are only for specific chromosomal issues - nothing more. My education is in this area and I cannot believe how little people discuss these questions with their HCP.

  • Hang in there!  I did not realize that you got results of gender with this test. It is a fairly new test. I can say that if you are having this done, it isn't because you want to know the sex of the baby, it is looking for 5 other chromosome disorders.  So folks, take a breath and let's try to control everyone's hormone levels, and embrace each others questions/answers and such than to rip them apart.

Please don't bump up old threads to play board police...or blame things on hormones.

  • Wow-  I came on this post because I was curious about this test because it is non-invasive to the baby and can possibly flag genetic abnormalities.  Other tests like the Amnio and CVS are invasive to the baby and can cause miscarriages, so, I wasn't willing to risk it.

This is the second board I've started to read on the subject, and in both boards everyone is so vile and vicious.  Are we a support group?  Or a bunch of mean girls just out to attack each other?

I'm only 8 weeks preggers, so, I guess if this is the way my peer group is going to be on the knot, I should probably find a new site to troll for answers.

    Uh..

    1) this thread is 4 months old.

    2) "We" aren't anything, especially not a support group.

    3) wtf is preggers

    4) this isn't the knot. This is the bump

    5) you might as well leave

  • I had the panorama as well. It said I was having a girl and the ultrasound confirmed it.
