Panorama Testing

Hey..so im new to this whole thing...still trying to figure it out. im 16 weeks pregnant and at 12 weeks they did a Panorama test on me to tell me what im having. They told me I was having a girl. I am stoked but I'm worried it will be inaccurate. They say its over 99 prevent accurate and they prefer that over an u/s. Has anyone else had this and thoughts on it?

  • Actually no that's not what I did. I had 4 miscarriages previously so they were doing blood testing on me because of that and they happened to send it off with the blood work they were doing. I had no idea they even told the gender on stuff like that  until my blood work came back and they happened to tell me.  And I do have abnormalities. You people are so rude. Jump to the gun why don't you
    Laurendag said:

FFS people can be so vain and shallow. Here's an idea, be happy your baby is healthy and wait until your ultra sound like everyone else.

  • Excuse me let me rephrase this. I didn't have a panorama test done to find out my Gender. I have had multiple failed pregnancy's and they were testing me for abnormalities because of the health issues I've been through. When my blood work for that came back my Doctor asked if I wanted to know what I was having, I said of course(thinking were just conversing about if im one of those people who want to know or not) not knowing she had the results in her hand. I had no idea that with my blood work that could be told. This is my first pregnancy I have actually not miscarried so I wasn't that educated with the testing when I had it done, but with them doing that and telling me what I was having I just thought id try to research it and find out how accurate it was. I didn't go in to have that testing done for that reason. By the way I do have three genetic abnormalities. so before anyone else wants to come at me, like im some bad person for asking  a question, don't. I will find another board. Im too stressed to deal with crap like this. I came on this website hoping to talk to some other people, not be talked to like that.

I had the panorama test done. I was told at 12 weeks it was a boy, which was later confirmed by the u/s. Trust the test.
  • jac409jac409 member
I had one done at 10 weeks. We did it because I am 38 and at higher risk for downs, etc. The results for us were all very low risk, thank God. The bonus was finding out the gender so early. I will have my anatomy scan in about a month, so we will see. They told me it us accurate within 1% and that they had never had one come back wrong after the ultrasound.
  • rlyttlerlyttle member
You are having a girl, but have them confirm it at your A/S.
  • Man, am I sorry that you had to deal with such ignorance there!  People on these boards can be so mean...so many chips on shoulders that they should not be taking out on people they don't know.  I have been beaten up on these boards before because of asking a simple question I wanted comfort on.  I just keep reminding myself that anyone who wants to hurt someone via a Bump message board is a coward and needs help we can't offer.

I had the panorama done as well.  It said boy, and yes, we are having a boy.  That test is 99.9 on gender.  Trust it!
  • Why should posters form an opinion about someone's tone?  Why not just answer the question and allow this to be a safe and comforting place in an otherwise oft-scary experience?

You people who are defending the negative reactions...omg.  What is your problem?  It astounds me.

She was just asking if the panorama was accurate.  YOU GUYS assigned meaning to her post.  Not her.
  • So what...why does it matter which component she was questioning?  She was just questioning it, and you turned her into a monster...with no evidence.

You sure are VERY defensive for someone with no chip on their shoulder ;)

    over and out.
  • @larbeadles‌ If she's knows it's over 99% accurate, why is she questioning it? And what exactly are we supposed to say? Are we supposed to tell her "no, you're having a boy"?

  • wow people are rude.  i just started posting last week due to some fears, and all i see are people being attacked.  i have seen people attacked for posting 'tmi' posts because they hadn't posted much else prior to that, and now this?

people are allowed to handle their pregnancies however they choose.  i had the panorama done specifically to find out the gender early because i am impatient.  how does vanity even play into that @laurendag?! i was also worried about the possibility of abnormalities, even though i had no risk, so the test also served to ease my easily worried mind.  i am extremely appreciative of a healthy pregnancy, but why can't i take advantage of the options available to me just to be sure?  i don't think i will be posting to these boards anymore due to all the negativity.  it's a shame, really, since it can be a great source.
  • I am a first time mom, and my doctor offeredme an option to find out the gender, and my husband and I chose to do it. It's not like we took the spot of a woman who needed it more or prevented someone with risks from doing it. If it's only meant for women who arat at risk for abnormalities, then doctors shouldn't offer it to those who aren't. If it's offered with my next pregnancy,I will do I again without a second thought if it is offered. Finding out early was exciting, and confirming that I did not have any risks for anything added to peace of mind. Bitches will be britches, I guess. Everyone does things differently and for their own reasons, but I guess there will always be negative people who want to ruin everyone else's day too.
  • I did not have the test done for a gender purposes I did it to test for abnormalities because I have been through a hell of a lot with pregnancies. I didn't know that the gender could even be told that way until they told me. All I was asking was are they accurate because I was curious. I did it for the health of the baby but GOD FORBID  I ask a question. I found a board where women aren't like they are here. They are comforting and you can actually talk to them without getting treated so hatefully. Sorry for starting this post, but I've never seen so many BITCHES and I don't talk like that about people EVER. I wasn't even going to comment back on this post anymore, but the more hateful women that post the more my blood boils. Not all of us have multiple kids, like me this is my first pregnancy that I have NOT miscarried. So some of us haven't been as educated as you all think you are, and I came on this site looking to talk to women for support and help, not to be treated like this. God I hope your children don't turn out to be women like you. I've never seen such a hateful bunch. And go ahead with the negative comments from this because im sure there coming :)

Everyone forms opinions based on tone. You are forming an opinion of the responses yourself. It's human nature. I fail to see the issue. Is the blood test accurate? It says so on the pamphlet. It's 99% accurate. OP did not need that information. It was already provided. Derp...

I am defending how the post came across to me. I'm allowed to do that just like you are allowed to try and act like a nursemaid to finger-wag at me.

She was more concerned about accuracy for sex. Fact. Otherwise, why ask about it? It wasn't, "I have a history of genetic disease in my family. I'm worried. How accurate is this test?"

This place is commercially based & not really meant to be a group hug type environment. OP wasn't worried about genetic results. She added that later when she was called out about her priorities appearing to be whacked.

How else are we supposed to interpret her question? She places value on the sex of her kid when that isn't really the purpose of the test. It's a by product due to some genetic issues being sex linked.

Remove head from sphincter, then post.

@larbeadles‌ : I fail to see anyone calling the OP a bad person or a "monster". Quote? Simply stated, she wants to know if she could be part of the 1% where the blood results are inaccurate? Sure it's possible. Also, just to point out, I would be more worried that my bloodwork was not accurately screened for the genetic issue. I would be waaaay more concerned for being part of the 1% that was given an "all clear" & it was somehow wrong. Not if my kid's junk was the opposite. Of all the things to worry about being "wrong" the sex is the last one if I'm truly worried about the accuracy of blood work. Doesn't that make more sense? My priorities are based on the health of my kid, that's why.
Once again I wasn't "worried" about if the test was accurate for gender purposes. I just asked how accurate they were. My god do you people not read???  I was concered about the health issues I just chose not to discuss them . But since you people want to keep on being SO HATEFUL, My baby is not all healthy! I do have things wrong, so keep being mean and saying your negative things. This is the worst group of women ive seen on here.

I hear you say this, but honestly, that's not how your post read. I'm kind of confused why you want to share about your sex results, but not a more pressing/serious issue of genetic abnormalities. I don't feel that I've been hateful at all. I'm merely making observations based on your posts. Again, your communication fail is your fault. Don't blame others for reading what you wrote & interpreting your priorities.

I disagree. You re-worded your post after someone questioned you. That's called being called out.

Calling me a bitch really doesn't help you.

    Hmmm...

Please clarify for me. Your baby has health issues & yet here you are asking about sex accuracy? Doesn't that sound fucked up to you? That's what I am trying to point out to you. From what you post it sounds like you would rather blather on with righteous indignation that people are pointing out how odd it is that you are placing such importance on whether your blood work is right about sex.

I think it's rich that you are questioning my reading ability when you have access to the medical information about your blood work. You can, hopefully, clearly see 99% is pretty damn accurate. Why in the world would you trust internet strangers vs. what your doctor & the manufacturers of the blood test TELL you?

I'm sorry your pregnancy & baby are having health issues. That is very frightening. However, the only person saying anything close to hateful in this thread has been you. Do you not see this?

The OP looked bad without the history given later on, it needed to be pointed out. As someone who is dealing with genetic abnormalities, I would think that the OP would completely understand that worrying about the sex is ridiculous....hence my lack of understanding at the name calling...seriously, no one was mean here except you.

Are you sure you weren't concerned about just the sex - because your ORIGINAL POST made it pretty clear that you were.  "They did a Panorama test to tell me what I'm having"  - um no they did it because you have a history - the sex is a bonus and then "I'm stoked but worried it might be inaccurate"

EVERYTHING in your original post is about the sex of your child - not the health.......
