@SecretAgentKate if it makes you feel any better FI and I were going to have our girls middle name as Rose after his grandma however when we brought it up to FI mom she was overjoyed that we were naming her after his sister (who is a drug addict and physically attacked me) nope nixed that. Then they went on to joke and giggle about how this little girl will share FI sisters birthday...I'm not a fan.

yeah, that would not make me happy either
our current name "drama" is that H's middle name is my dad's name. so now my ILs are sure we're going to name #4 after my FIL because it would only make sense. Um, no.
1. my inlaws are crazy
2. all of my children will forever share a name with my FIL because they hold his last name
3. my SIL used my FIL's name in my nephew's name
4. it's my kid and i'm not going to name him something i don't like out of some weird obligation
they have brought it up several times and every time i just shrug and say we haven't decided on anything and point out that no matter what we choose they will all still share the last name. i have been told twice that they are sure I will make the right decision. *huge freakin eyeroll here*
I keep using the "she already has one of your names...you don't get 2" (FI last name) he dropped it but he'll still say that we should use Rose every now and then. I've just dropped the middle name issue for now. In the end I'm the one who carried her for 9 months and then spent however long in labor and delivery...
If they hadn't done cervical checks during labor I would have been sent home when we all thought I wasn't progressing and labor had stalled. We decided to check and I had gone from 3cm to 9.5cm.
Well if it's to make a decision like that you obv let them check.
I'm totally okay with them doing cervical checks during labor itself. I stalled at 8.5 for a while, and couldn't wait to start pushing. It's just before labor that it seems completely unnecessary.

I'm amazed by how much everyone's families try to weigh in on names. My family: not one peep. They knew we would not share names or even give hints. Mh's family: knew we wouldn't share our choice but did try to guess our choice
My mom has thrown out a bajillion suggestions, but she also knows that we won't share once we have made a decision. And she isn't pushy about it. She just randomly texts "what about Bobbi Sue Ann Elizabeth Marie?" MH's family hasn't said a word. Didn't with E either. Although SMIL did say that E's name is the kind of name that "grows on you." Not sure what that means.

My mom may not like the name we chose, I don't think she likes DS name either. She notorious for wanting to have input on her grandkids names, I think to feel like she was involved. She knows in the end I will do what I want (she did convince me to add a second middle name to DS name. It reminds me of my brothers name but after the fact I realize it makes DS name very very long).
My mom randomly suggested that we name this LO Moira or Maura (I can't remember how she said to spell it). I don't mind the name but wound not have chosen it b/c half the time no one would have pronounced it right. I always felt bad for one girl I went to school with for a little while whose name was Dahlia. No one knew whether to pronounce it with a short a or a schwa. (That is what you call the ahhh a, like in fall, right?)
Speaking of names, DH has the same first name as my brother. This was almost a complete deal-breaker for me b/c when we moved from AL to FL in middle school, one major butthead decided that incest jokes were all the rage. I got over it, but it does get confusing sometimes b/c actually DH, my brother, my dad, and DH's dad (now passed) all had the same first name and didn't really go by nicknames. When we found out DS1 was a boy, all my dad asked was that we NOT use the same first name.
@potterowl - Now I'm always going to picture you as the redhead from Rizzoli and Isles. I like the name Maura; I just know DH's family especially would butcher saying it all.the.time. We have a cousin with a very unique name, and I don't even think his parents say it the same way as each other. One grandmother gave him a nickname, and Mamaw finally gave up trying and just calls him by his middle name.
If it helps, my sister is the only person in my family who pronounces my name like I do (there are two common pronunciations). Even my parents and DH pronounce it opposite of how I introduce myself.
MH's first name is the same as his dad's first name. My paternal grandfather also has the same first name. My sister's husband also has the same name and he has a son from a previous marriage who's a Jr. It's hilarious at family gatherings trying to figure out who's talking to who.
The good thing is there are lots of nicknames for the first name, so most of them go by different nicknames.
@Mapleme and @SecretAgentKate - Your guesses are as good as mine! At one point, someone told me it's supposed to sound like Nation. Others say Nuh-SHAWN. I want to ask his parents, but the kid is like 4 now, so I'm kind of embarrassed.

Dying to know now @ElleBeeDub! I know your last name, but not first?! And I didn't realize you lived in tx. Where is the spreadsheet?

Me too! How could your DH not pronounce it like you? That's just weird
I really only get annoyed when people I don't like mispronounce my name. or if they say mara (mar-uh) with a super southern twang.
That would be the problem. Both of our families are super southern, and some vowel combinations are just super tricky. I still honestly have to concentrate to say oi words correctly.

It's weirder that you don't say it like your parents. You grew up hearing them say it before you could talk, you would think you would say it like them.
Ha! My first name is Lauren. I pronounce is like "law-ren" (since I'm named after my dad, and his name is Lawrence), but pretty much everyone else pronounces is "lor-en".
I think people get it wrong because they don't listen closely when I introduce myself. I also know a lot of people who can't hear the difference. Of course then there's the Germans who pronounce the "au" as "ow"

Right?! I think it's because I went through a time of serious name-hate for a while, so I decided if I was going to have this name, I was at least going to pronounce it how I wanted. (I had a lot of feelings as an adolescent...)
That's so exciting ABColeslaw!!! Don't get too caught up in the last minute craziness! Be sure to rest. (Easier said than done. I've been there. But it's worth a try. )
