Re: ~~~ Pact Grads Check In ~~~

Can I join in this week? I've been lurking/posting a little for the past few months.

I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow and we had names picked out by 13 weeks but all of a sudden my husband doesn't like our first choice girl name. If we have a boy his name will be Luke Riley and for a girl I liked Savannah Ellen but he didn't like Savannah so we'll probably go with our second choice Emily Louise.

I just started prepping my flats and prefolds this past weekend. It was exciting. Time is flying by!

@kountingsheep‌ my uterus was measuring 3 weeks ahead at my 22 week appointment! My midwife said that it doesn't necessarily mean the baby is measuring big so that was reassuring.

  • I'm actually at a laptop today so I can post more rather than just lurking from my phone. I'm so over being pregnant and I still have months to go.

I'm going to attempt my first solo trip with the toddler on Thursday. We're flying cross country to join my husband who has already flown out for work. We'll get to hang out with him for the weekend and then all come home together. It'll be just me and the toddler and me trying to carry all the crap.

Which leads me to the pack of sposies I bought today. If the apartment we'll stay in had laundry I was going to try to pack flats, but I'm trying to travel in just one bag and I don't feel like handwashing. I was even almost going to try the flats and handwashing challenge anyway, but I'm just not feeling it with the belly getting in the way of everything.

Just the other day my husband said we should talk about boy names. We still have our girl name from the first go around. I tell him my top choice again, because he never listens or remembers that we've had this conversation before. He asks me if that's all I've got and I throw out two more. I ask him if he has any ideas and he's got nothing. My favorite is Nathan Robert. Alternates include Ryan, James, or William.

  • Should I join this week? I was mentioned last week...i wasn't sure if this was a super secret society which no one aside from those invited were allowed.

at any rate I'm posting anyway :P
due august 29th hoping she stays in till sept 4th though. That way she'll be born on a weekend we have DS and not have to worry about ex keeping DS because i was in the hospital.

DS read the little girl a book today. She was kicking and squirming the entire time. FI also read her a shorter book and she was also kicking but the book was really funny so we struggled not to laugh the entire time (Fox in socks by Dr suess).

FI and I agree on a name. It's the only name we both kept going back to..I'd tell you but i don't want to lol. Well just call her E online. My mom doesn't like the name we chose and keeps trying to get us to rename her.

    Oh hospital tour next sat...woo

  • That's why we didn't tell my mom the name until after the baby was born. She has nine grand kids and hasn't like a single one of the names, until the baby actually shows up and then it's impossible not to like it.

  • I've started to creep over into the really uncomfortable zone again. It's not an all the time thing, but odd things are setting me back, like trying to move around in bed is painful again and I get nauseated very easily. It's all just normal stuff, but I forgot about this from last time. Thankfully, I am not swelling up like I did last time (so far). I think with DS1 I started swelling just after 20 weeks, and by 28 weeks I was the flippin Pillsbury Doughboy all over. It was irritating and painful. I wore flipflops for months on end b/c that's all I could wear. Anyway, super super happy that I'm not swollen so far!! I'm starting a stroller exercise group at the park tomorrow morning, so hopefully the extra exercise will also help.

We still haven't chosen a name. We've got three first names that we agree we like, but we haven't agreed on a middle name for each of them yet. We will make our final decision after DS2 is born. I think it drives DH's family nuts and they probably think we secretly have a name already and aren't telling. I don't care. In fact, I hope it drives them a little nuts. They drive me a little nuts, too. (DH's aunt asked him today if he could tile his grandmother's bathroom before the end of the month. She lives an hour away, so this is not something he could go do after work one day, and DH hasn't even finished moving all his crap out of the nursery so we can paint! I told him it was up to him, but I'm seriously hoping that he politely declines.)

  • Nothing new, next appt on the 13th.

We have agreed to wait to talk about names until after our a/s in 3ish weeks. We still love the girls name we had picked out when we were team green with DS, but boy name kill me. I basically do not like any of them. I veto almost everything DH suggests. With DS, we did not settle on a boys name until 2 days before he was born.

  • Occasional BH have started up, sooner than last time too. SIL asked if I thought I wuld make it to full term. Am I the only one who thinks that's a weird question. "no, I think I'm going to have a preemie....?" WTH are you supposed to say? DH asked about names for the first time last night. We have a girl name from the first time around. I don't know about another boy's name tho. DS is named after late FIL. The first time around DH kept asking why not name after my father.

I'm feeling pretty good. I think baby had a growth spurt and my belly muscles and ligaments are sore. :( I also get BH, but I had those early with Logan.

I hate everyone who has an easy time naming a kid.

We have our list of names we don't hate from last time. We can't agree on anything. Ugh. Good thing we have about 20 it weeks. ;)

ETA - How could I forget about new fluff?! I bought a lot off the swap, it was a killer deal, I hope. 16 BG 3.0s, snaps, great condition, for $110 ppd. I love my 4.0s and I'm hoping the only difference is the slight difference in cut and a little shorter rise.

I have plenty of nb fluff. I have 36 pockets with some AIOs thrown in. That doesn't include the prefolds and covers...

I have been waking up with the bad hip pain that I got at the end of last pregnancy already, and it seems to be helping some. • 36+3 and over it!!
I've been in pain and battling antenatal depression for the last 12+ weeks and can't wait to have my body back to myself again.
Oddly though, this last week I feel like my depression (that comes and goes) has completely lifted and I've actually been a little more physically comfortable as well. You know...except that now I'm huge and it's harder and harder to move, things are less painful to do. And my swelling has eased up a bit as well (although not my weight gain!!) :)

Oh...and naming her was easy. It's been my secret little girl name for years and years, and when I told DH, he loved it!! We just had to think of a middle name which took a while only because we were in no hurry.
We didn't tell anybody her name except for my parents, which I learned was a mistake. They accidentally leaked her first name to the rest of my family so basically now it'll only be a surprise for DHs family. Oh well, guess who won't be finding out the secret next time!!
  • I'm still feeling pretty good, although I've definitely got cankles and cramps if I've been on my feet all day ;) G keeps me so busy, I feel like I don't have time to even think about what's going on pregnancy-wise.

My blood pressure has stayed low the last few  visits, so we're really excited that it seems like induction won't be pushed this time (unless something unexpected comes up...). I had a growth scan a week or so ago, and she's right on track, so that's all good.

DH and I basically don't agree on names at all. In fact, we kinda avoid having conversations about it because they never amount to much, and they're exhausting. We have a short list (which is essentially names that I like and DH doesn't hate), but we'll wait until we see her to give her an official name (although I totally already have one picked out, and DH doesn't completely hate it, so it might be "the one"). I did ask my dad to send me girl names from his family for mn inspiration (G's middle name is a family name on DH's side), and they're a little bit terrible, so it wasn't overly helpful :/

I had some ideas for this time, but now I am wondering if we should save them for first names.

So y'all are saying if I'm torn between two middle names, I should go with the family one?  That's where I was leaning anyway, because I like the number of syllables and the flow a bit better.  But there is a similar name that isn't a family name that is prettier.  MH got to pick the FN, so I'm picking the MN.

No real update here, just waiting for a baby.  I was going to AW the nursery, but it's still a mess.

Love!  We have an Emmagene on my mom's side, and I would LOVE for that to be LO's mn.  It is perfect bc it's my mom's aunt that she was close to, plus Gene is my grandfather's name, and I'm close to him.  But MH hates it.  He used his veto.

I know someone with a daughter whose first name is Emma and middle name Jean, so I thought about that as a tribute without actually using the name, but Emma is more popular than a name I would normally pick, so I don't know.

@potterowl   I love both Neva and Irving!

@TJ1979 We totally went with the family name when we couldn't decide on MNs.  Both my boys have MN's that are a tribute to my dad (he passed away in '07).  I thought it was a bit weird to honor him with both boys, but we liked both names and there really wasn't anyone else male we wanted to honor in our families.

Speaking of names - I'm so so so glad DS1 wasn't a girl.  I kind of hate the girl's name we picked for him when we were team green.

H and I have finally settled on names. The first time we had them picked at about 6 weeks this time it took until 15 weeks to settle. We ended up going with the boy name we picked the first time but didn't use because we had a girl. We tried so hard to come up with something new but nothing sounded right.

((hugs)) CQ!  I can't remember, is this his first baby?  DH was very uninvolved with DS1 until after the a/s.  I think it wasn't real to him until then.  Even after that, he mostly let me make all the decisions about baby other than names.  He was just not really sure what to expect and didn't have opinions about gear etc.  With DS2 I actually had my feelings hurt a couple times because he was soooo opinionated about the birth and what gear to get and all.

DH and I tried to use a family name for a middle (or first name), but I don't like naming a kid after a living relative and the dead ones have no-go names for us (Doris and Alfreda are our favorite grandmothers), there are more boys than girls and not everyone has a middle name (I don't, my Dad's mother didn't). MIL middle name is really nice (Aurora) and it stayed on the list for a while, but ultimately it didn't go with the other names we liked. If you are struggling between two names, I really like flipping a coin. Go with what the coin says for two days and if it doesn't sit right with you after that time, go with the other option.

Also @TJ1979, I love how love-gushy you've become toward the end of your pregnancy. You deserve a cute puppy pretending it's a pregnant lady trying to get off a couch.

    image
So I'm not the  only one that thinks it's weird to name after a living relative? That's why I didn't want to name DS after my father.... since he's still living.

The only issue with naming him after late FIL is that is also BIL's name. But oh well... We also tossed around naming him after my grandfather... which is also other BIL's name. I like DH's grandfather's name, except it's already taken by DS's cousin.

I don't know where else to post this question... I hope someone looks at this thread.

I decline cervical checks.  I don't think it matters whether I'm 1 cm or 3 at this point.  I could be 3 cm dilated for a month and not have the baby, or I could be 0 cm dilated today and have the baby tonight.  I don't think the amount of dilation tells you anything, and also, it is just another chance to introduce unnecessary bacteria.  And they hurt.  So I decline them.

Last time, she talked me into letting her check me at 39 weeks, and I had E 3 days later.  I will be 39 weeks tomorrow, and I know she's going to try to talk me into getting checked.

Am I just being silly for declining checks?  What will it really tell her?  What is the point?  WWYD?

Last time, she talked me into letting her check me at 39 weeks, and I had E 3 days later.  I will be 39 weeks tomorrow, and I know she's going to try to talk me into getting checked.

Am I just being silly for declining checks?  What will it really tell her?  What is the point?  WWYD?
I agree with all of your reasons for declining checks.  I, too, was planning on declining checks and then curiosity got the better of me and I let my MW check at 39 weeks.  She then accurately predicted that I would go into labor during the weekend or by Monday at the latest. I went into labor on Saturday. /anecdote
  • I declined at 39 weeks and only got one at 40 weeks because they wanted to try to sweep me, because they wanted baby to come by 41 weeks because of gd. If I had it my way I would decline them all until I was ready to push.

  • @TJ1979‌ I declined all cervical checks too. Even when I went to L&D, in labor...no cervical check. Unnecessary

  • I am probably going to decline them, also. They are not needed usually. I'm especially going to decline them if I'm able to go into labor and try my VBAC before I have to be induced. They will have a harder time pulling the "failure to progress" card if they don't know. My body will tell me when to push.

During my induction, I had my doc check just to make sure I wasn't progressing before I chose to go for the c-section. I think I had three of them with Logan, but my pregnancy went sucky at the end.

If they hadn't done cervical checks during labor I would have been sent home when we all thought I wasn't progressing and labor had stalled. We decided to check and I had gone from 3cm to 9.5cm.
