Not sure if anyone remembers me mentioning that DD is a slow gainer. She has been EBF up until a week ago and was always following her own growth curve so ped wasn't ever really concerned.
The past 3 months, she has been very slow (roughly 4.5g/day) and then the past few weeks she stopped gaining all together. It was pretty scary when our ped mentioned cystic fibrosis and ordered a sweat test (even though DD was screened at birth) and she ordered blood work to check a bunch of things, including Celiacs. We were extremely stressed since her slow gains have never really been an issue.
We decided it was best to start supplementing with formula. We started supplementing on Friday (after our last weight check) and went back today for another weight check, so, a total of 5 days.
She gained 320g in those 5 days. 64g/day. I was shocked. I was so happy, I started crying. We have been stressed about her weight since birth but even more stressed lately and this was the news that we really needed/wanted to hear.
Ped called off blood work and all other tests because she said it was clearly just a calorie issue. I have been making her a 4oz bottle after every BF session and I just let her take what she needs, usually anywhere from 1.5-4oz. She roughly has anywhere from 8-12oz/day of formula and just with that, she gained so much. I feel like I have been starving her all these months. I'm assuming my supply took a hit when she started the 4mo sleep regression and started nursing very frequently but for very short periods of time.
She is also a lot happier after feeds and can go longer stretches (previously only went 2hrs max). No real point to this post. Just that I am so, so happy. For once, we left the doctors office feeling relieved and happy instead of stressed and worried.
