Scared s*itless

I was making lunch in the kitchen while LO was lying in a bassinet in the living room. After a moment of complete silence, Elise wailed in her first cry that sounded like pain. I ran to her and she was all red and seemed like she was struggling to breathe. There was some spit up that came through her nose, but I came to the quick conclusion she inhaled part of the spit up.

I pat her back and cleared her nose with an aspirator, but her breathing still seemed raspy. I calmed down some once I knew she was breathing, but DAMN was that scary! I called the pedi, and they agreed that I should just keep her upright for 20-30 minutes and watch her closely.

Totally ugly cried after getting off the phone. This FTM stuff is scary sometimes :-(

Thanks, ladies. I know I can't keep playing the "what if" game, but all I could think was, "what if I was taking a shower while I thought she was napping and couldn't get to her in enough time?" Sigh...

Well, for today, I'll wait for DH to come home before showering and keep her close.., hopefully this won't make me crazy attached!

I'm so scared of that happening to my baby boy. Our pedi gave me the 'okay' to let him sleep on his side.

Do you have a bouncer? Those keep baby at a nice incline, so when I shower I put dd in there & bring it in the bathroom with me. If your bathrooms aren't large enough you could put it right in the door.

Thanks, @ksulli! I definitely was using the bouncer for the rest of the afternoon after this happened. She hasn't always loved it, but after the incident, it was as if she "agreed" this was a good sitting position because she stayed alert and happy for good stretches while in it. She's still small for the seat and slides down, but she's okay if I carefully roll burp clothes around her (avoiding a potential suffocation risk...)

I was able to take a glorious shower once DH returned home, but I'll probs use your suggestion for today!

P.S. Sorry if I scared a bunch of moms with this thread, but your support and concern meant so much! I knew if I called DH in tears he wouldn't have been able to do anything, nor my other family. You ladies are the best!!!

Phoenix has reflux, and has been doing this very thing since he was born on March 28th. We keep him at an incline most of the time. His Dr. said that if it looked like he was beginning to experience pain from the acid in his vomit we could explore medication options. So far keeping him at an incline has been supremely helpful. It is so scary when they choke on their spit up.

Baby choking is one of my biggest fears. Sometimes he inhales breastmilk too quickly and semi-chokes on it, which always freaks me out.

    Glad everything is okay!
