I'll start the mucus plug posts now

But I won't include any pics. Sorry ladies. Here's my story. I think I've lost my plug. I've got an appt scheduled for tomorrow so I'll find out more. Here's my question. How long after you lost your plug did you go into labor? I obviously know that I can sit like this from here on out and still need to be induced but curiosity is getting the best of me. Not to mention I'm 35 weeks and this makes me nervous.

  • @LilNunz1‌ that's very reassuring as I'm not quite ready to be done being pregnant. This little guy needs to cook a little longer.

I just fucked up and googled it, NOT to see a pic, but to find out more information.  Thanks Google, you fucking asshole-- for showing me a few image results at the top of the page.  AND oh my gosh, DO NOT google for the below gif either! FML

I did the same thing. I should've mentioned in the post DO NOT GOOGLE MUCOUS PLUG!!!!!

  • With DS I lost mine at around 36 weeks.  Went until 41 weeks 5 days and was induced.

  • I'm glad I posted this too! It's reassuring to know he's still got time to bake :)
  • @LilNunz1‌ I'm not sure of size but the consistency is like a loogie.
  • Or like when you sneeze a a glob of snot comes out. Yea it's like that. And it can be yellowish, brownish, pinkish or clear.

It looks different because it's alot thicker and stickier then your usual discharge. And it's like globs.
  • In my L&D class they said you can lose it 4-6 weeks before going into labor, so at this point, it's totally normal.
  • I started losing mine 2 weeks ago. As pp said, nbd unless you have contractions or your water breaks. That's what my doctor told me when I called.

In terms of size, for losing in pieces I've seen anywhere from a dime to a quarter amount. Hope this is helpful and not a gross image... :(

  • I didn't know you could just walk around for weeks after losing your plug so this was actually quite helpful to me!

    I didn't know either...cray cray!

The idea of regenerating a glob of multicoloured snot, how could you not want to google that?

OMG this gif made me laugh!
  • I've been afraid to click into this post all afternoon - fearing the presence of the evil photo. Thankfully I finally screwed up the nerve (and there's no photo!) because I was also ignorant of a lot of these facts and that it's NBD to lose. Thanks for the info ladies!

  • Lol this thread is rather entertaining.... I lost a couple chunks of my plug at 36 weeks, then the rest of it at 37 weeks (in my last pregnancy) I didn't go into labor until 4 days after my due date.

And like pps have said, the consistency is definitely a lot different than regular pregnancy discharge. And when the biggest chunk came out, it was about the size of a .50 piece... You'll KNOW when u see it haha
  • OK another FTM question... is there any weird smell to it (not that I expect anyone got so up in it's biz) but anything different that we should be on the lookout for?

Lol not that I know of... granted, I didn't smell it, but there wasn't a noticeable smell..
  • I've been having lots of mucus on and off for the last two weeks. It just keeps making more, oh the joys of pregnancy! No contractions or BH's so my midwife isn't concerned. She did say that you can have more mucus if baby has his head really low already as it adds extra pressure. Babe over here is at a 0 station already and I'm 33 weeks.
  • I lost mine (or a good portion of it) last week! The book that the hospital gave me said to call them if you lose it before 36 weeks...so of course I called and they told me it was NBD as long as no blood or contractions. Sweet, how embarrassing. X_X

  • I'm really glad this post was able to clear up some questions you ladies had :)
  • @ChristineBaker23‌ my dog won't quit stealing and hiding my underwear either!
  • I'm getting all kinds of lovely visuals over here :-/
  • The dogs aren't eating the plugs @CAMag‌ lol they are stealing our underwear trying to eat them! Ish lol
  • On the advice of all you lovely ladies I have NEVER googled it, but now I'm curious. It can't be that bad...right?
  • I'm def going to Google this -.- Thanks a lot ladies! And glad I read this, I never lost the "plug" with either of my girls and glad to know baby stays put even if you do!

My friend didn't lose hers with her first but did a couple weeks early with her second.  Seems to vary widely from person to person from what I have read.

Interesting. I just assumed I would lose it and it would be a big glob of bloody stuff and that I would go into labor shortly after! Learning new things everyday!

I'm going to remain in a state of ignorant bliss and presume I will not lose mine.

  • I love my plugs at 36 and 37 weeks. Never went into labor. Some people go into labor within hours, some people go within weeks. And mucus plugs can regenerate, so losing it in most cases doesn't really mean much.
