@yellowbird219 - I was the same way so don't feel bad. I even had ordered a cute dress for my shower except I did not take into account any potential swelling. So the day before my shower, I had a mini meltdown because I didn't want to wear the dress because my feet and ankles had started to swell. Plus I'm short (5'1) so finding maxi skirts or dresses that I don't swim in is anything but easy. In the end, I opted for a non maternity maxi skirt that I just rolled the waistband under my bump to shorten and a bright colored top. Good luck and enjoy your shower!
I am losing my mind over what I'm going to wear to my shower on Saturday. I know it's a stupid, vain thing but I'm completely fixated. I'm the one in the family that everyone teases about being a "fashionista" which is really not hard when I just like a lot of color and I live in a tiny town in western PA. Our town is about 4 years behind on trends so if I keep a bit up to date they think I'm fashionable.
ANYWAY- I have struggled a lot with dressing and feeling good. I would like to wear a dress, but that poses a few problems.
1) It would have to be a maxi, which is fine, because I literally can not put my knees together. So the guests would be getting an eyeful.
2) I can't find a maxi dress locally that isn't navy, black, or grey and I need color. I just can't do dark colors. My skin is very fair and I always look like a vampire unless it's a bright color.
3) Any dress I try on that isn't form fitting makes me feel like a whale. If the cut is loose, and doesn't "cling" to the bump somewhat it makes me look so much bigger than I am. And with all the obnoxious comments I've gotten, I really don't need people thinking I'm bigger than they already think I am.
So, that leaves me with skirts or pants. A maxi skirt and a nice top? I could do that. I made an adorable maxi skirt that is blue and white polka dots that I could wear a nice white blouse with. Or, I could pick up a pair of capris and put a top with it.
Around here, it's kind of unheard of for people to wear anything other than dress clothes to a shower. Especially the person it's held for, so I don't want to look frumpy.
UGH I know I'm over thinking this but I'm completely fixated and can't make up my mind. How stupid is it that I don't even care if I'm not completely comfortable for a few hours, I just want to look cute?? That's just about the most shallow thing I could be thinking. ">
Accessorize girl! I know western pa and I feel ya! Take that maxi and add a belt and statement jewelry or a cardigan or a button down tied above the bump. You can dress up those plain, baggy maxis. Good luck though! (Also, I agree, unless you're having a BBQ shower, people aren't going to feel ya in pants. And I wish I would have worn a longer skirt after seeing the bottoms of my thighs in all my photos. Cellulite city
June '14 September Siggy challenge- Favorite things about fall
Trying this again as the first time I accidentally posted this in the Random Pregnancy Questions thread...
I decided to start the naked toddler potty training marathon today. Why? Because it's rainy, we'll be inside all day, and DD refuses to let me put on her diaper. So far she's done really good with going pee in the potty but I'm now watching her like a hawk to catch the first signs that she has to go poop.
We made it to nap time with only 1 accident and that I think was because it was close to nap time so she was getting tired and had a melt down and in the middle of the melt down peed. Still no poop yet so I'll probably be changing a poopy diaper when she wakes up from her nap.
@KrystaJ I don't think my branch of the hospital does. Lucky! There is a fridge though and there will definitely be booze in my hospital room
I told H that I will be packing my a bottle of red wine in my hospital bag. He doesn't think that I really am.
While I don't think I'd be ballsy enough to do it, my friend who recently had a baby had her mom bring her favorite beer to her hospital room. She and her H each had one over dinner one night before they were discharged.
A dark beer will help with milk production. My hospital doesn't care what you drink so long as it is not to excess, etc. I hate beer but if I have trouble with my milk I might force myself.
So Henry and I tried breast feeding today!! He latched on after a few attempts and he was even doing nutritive (spelling?) sucking!!!! I even had milk in the nipple shield after he was done!!! Yay!!!! Hopefully this will stimulate my supply!!! And he also took 17 ml from a bottle at one of his feedings last night!!! Henry weighed in at 4lbs 14oz!!!

That's awesome!! Pooping took a bit longer for DD as well. She was just kinda confused as to what she was supposed to do with the number 2 and we had success the second or third day. Keep it up, sounds like your daughter is doing a great job!
@jujuberry1110 Thanks. I'm very proud of her and I figured going #2 on the potty would take longer as thats what I've heard from many people. I'm excited for DD to be potty trained but man am I going to miss the convenience of diapers especially when it comes to road trips and just being out and about.
@hubbs173 So happy to hear about little Henry. This may seem a little internet stranger creepy, but I have a little bit of an attachment to your lil guy I've never met! If we were going to have a boy, we were going to name him Henry. I LOVE THAT NAME! I also love that he is doing well and is now a big 4 pounder! I'll keep rooting for you and Henry!
Hi there ladies! I've been lurking you all for a really long time,
but didn't post because I knew that I couldn't be consistent with it
because of work/family obligations/forgetfulness. Now that I'm done
with work/find myself lurking all day every day, I'd really like to
be part of the conversation! I hope that I do it right and you salty
hoes can give me a chance!
Before I post my AW/SS stuff, I'll tell you a little bit about
myself so there's minimal stranger danger. I'm a newlywed FTM and
we're having a girl due on June 19th! We're naming her Summer Daisy.
We just got married November 9th, 2013...we were engaged
for a year and a half and decided to start trying for a baby a couple
months before the wedding because we assumed it would take a few
months...little did we know we'd be one of the very lucky ones that
strike gold on their first try! DH is a lawyer that just started his
own firm and up until last week, I was his office manager/secretary.
From now on, I'm going to be a SAHM.
I just want to add to all the preemie mommies, L&d residents
and mommies who have suffered losses: You all have been such an
inspiration. I know that I don't actually know you, but you are some
of the strongest women that I have ever sort of “met”. I hope
everything turns out amazingly for you all!
My AW/SS is this...Last night, I woke up at 5am to my finger
looking like this:
I managed to get my engagement ring off, but my finger kept
blowing up and made it impossible for DH and I to get my wedding ring
off...so we had to cut it off. My ring means a lot to me, so I'm
pretty upset about it...even though I know I can get it welded back
together.
I also have a question that might be kind of creepy. DD will be
sleeping in a bassinet in our room for her first 3 or 4 months. What
happens when DH and I want to get a little...frisky? Is it okay to
have her sleeping in the bassinet while that happens? Should we put
her in her room for a little while? I'm not sure if this is a dumb
question or not...?
Sorry for the long post, everyone!

@yellowbird219 - I think a maxi skirt and top would be nice... and maybe the most comfortable?
That is all I know - be comfortable. Because all I remember was sitting in that chair opening gifts and being so happy that I wore my jean capris (very casual shower at my mom's house, totally appropriate).
My SS moment of the day - I have been so anxious about my MIL and what her plan is once we have the baby. She lives 1.5 - 2 hours away. I was all "Is she coming up that day? Is she going to want to stay overnight? Will she want to stay once we get home? What is she doing?"
I finally told DH what I was comfortable with and to call his mom and set some guidelines/expectations.
Turns out, she's going to be on vacation until about a week before my due date, and had no plans on coming up for an extended visit - just to see the baby once he was born - and then go home.
I kind of felt dumb for being so anxious about it. What's that saying, 90% of the things you worry about never happen? I feel like it should be 99% of the things lest12 worries about, never happen.
@ohthatshari hey gurl hey! sorry about your ring, that's a bummer! I don't think baby is aware of what's going on when they're that little, so I'm gonna vote that you should be ok! But if not, maybe put baby in the crib and you and hubby get frisky in other parts of the house?
So, my 21st birthday is May 16th, and my doc approved me for a SMALL glass of wine (other than this occassion he says no to any amount.) Anyone have any suggestions for a really good, sweet/fruity wine? Since I can't go all out I want to make the one glass count!

I started bf with Max yesterday and have noticed a dramatic difference in my supply, so hopefully you will too! It is such great bonding time!

Do you have a preference for a red or a white? A moscato is a fruity sweet wine (dessert wine usually). This one is cheap and yum
For red one of the sweetest and fruitiest I've found is this:
Also cheap and yum. Apparently I'm a cheap drunk haha

I haven't tried a red wine before, DH got me a moscato that I LOVED for my birthday last year. I've heard that Barefoot is really good, I may have to check it ou.
I can't decide what I want to drink first after I have the baby. I am going right past wine to the good stuff. Margarita? Martini? Sangria? All of the above????
My long lost uncle is coming up to visit in July and bringing his wife (super sweet) and my cousin, whom I've never met!!!! I am so beyond excited.
Long story short, I had an ancestry.com account and he emailed me asking about my grandpa. Turns out grandpa knocked some girl up before he met grandma and she gave the baby up for adoption down on NC. He's now my favorite uncle.
Now that Hubs is being cool again. I'll show off one of his stunning pictures from his weekend trip. It doesn't really go with Baby's room but I told him I want it on a canvas where her crib is any way. This was taken at Arches National Park.

Thank you! I know I'm way overthinking it, I feel so dumb. I'm thinking I'm just gonna wear a maxi skirt and top too. But then again I'll probably change my mind 20342730482 more times before Saturday.
I changed mid-party because I thought I looked like a whale. If you're not 100% comfortable in what you're wearing, I'd bring a change of clothes. FWIW - I wore skinny jeans and cute tops to both of my showers.
I changed mid shower as well. My mom kept complaining that my dress was going up in the back and I got fed up. Luckily my daughter had packed plenty of dresses and I fit into one! I was way more comfortable not having to pull down my dress all day! Def pack a change of clothe, just in case.

Welcome! Love your baby name and we are wedding twins! Sorry about your wedding ring. I've had mine put away for a while now but I had experience with this my first pregnancy, where I too had to cut off my rings. Hope they can fix it! And as for your question, you def should wait a few weeks after having the baby and getting your check up before having intercourse. But I think you will be ok leaving her in the bassinet. She will be totally unaware of what is going on. If it does make you feel better you can move her to the other room with a monitor while you do your business and move her back once you are finished. Bestfof luck to you!

I'm thinking of stella rosa black... it's a dessert wine right? It's been so long. Hopefully someone can give their opinion on this but if it's the one I'm thinking of it's delicious.
MP he is so precious!! How are things going? I notice he doesn't have a lot of the NICU bells and whistles (tubes and stuff) so that's good right?
He's doing well! They let him eat as much as he wants (he bf for half an hour straight on Wed!) He only has the typical monitors for now (no feeding tube or breathing assistance) but is under the phototherapy light because his bili levels are still a bit high, which is typical for his gestational age. He has put on 7 ounces since birth which is crazy! I keep expecting him to lose some weight because that is what usually happens but at this point I am hoping he won't as that might set back his discharge. They were talking discharge a bit yesterday. I am not sure of a date, but we have training today for a monitor he will have to wear at home. He has been having Brady episodes (forgetting to breathe) so they are treating that with caffeine. It is very typical again of babies his age and is something they grow out of, but it is scary! I believe the monitor will help with that? So overall he is doing good! I can't wait to get back to him I just sit there and stare!
@Taymiller@ugabamafans@katekat8721@lest12 thanks for your support ladies! yes, i am sticking with the name. i really love it for our baby boy and it has meaning for us. it is my MIL's maiden name and it has no meaning for her. the irony is that one of the reasons we love it was because it was unique hahaha! just glad i have a place here where i can VENT
I know she is your best friend but that means she should also understand if you ask her not to use the name. This name obviously has sentimental value to you and it would be incredibly inconsiderate for her to be a name copy cat. I think you should tell her what you just said here and let her know how special the name is and say you would really appreciate it if the name could stay unique. It's not just that she's YOUR best friend but YOU are HER best friend and your feelings should matter to her. Maybe you can help her come up with a name that has meaning to her? A family name from her family?

Welcome @ohthatshari!
I think it'd be ok if the baby was in the room and sleeping... for the baby at least. They don't know what is going on, right?
However, I don't know if you and your H will be comfortable or a little weirded out (at least at first).
As a FTM myself, though, I don't know.
