Extended cab truck and infant seat

I searched through and didn't find anything specific related to our truck year and model. We have a '13 Ford F350 diesel with an extended cab. There are 2 full doors and a half door that opens French-door style with the full size doors. We are planning to get the B-safe travel system and after reviewing the measurements on BRU, it seems that the seat may not fit, or at least be very tight. We are going to stop by and test the seat out tomorrow,. Anyone have any experience with RF infant seats and extended cab pick ups?

Re: Extended cab truck and infant seat

  • My hubby has a truck like this. I think we ended up just using our Chicco infant seat in the middle and I would move my seat all the way forward when we did need to use his truck.

Then we used our britax boulevard rear facing only when needed. Now DS is 2.5 and forward facing in the Harmony Defender. It's a perfect fit!

It will fit just fine in the middle (with the seatbelt, not LATCH, of course)

We have a Chevy extended cab and a b safe. When you are ready for a convertible seat, depending on buget, the Chicco Nextfit, Diono radian, clek Foonf, guide 65 are all narrow enough to rearface in the middle.

  • If that doesn't work I'd look at the Maxi Cosi Mico and get a Valco Snap (12 lbs!) or City Mini with an adaptor.

  • Unless the truck has 3 sets of dedicated LATCH anchors (a set for each side and a set for the middle), many car seats and/or car manufacturers don't allow you to borrow the inside latches from the outboard sets to install.

I believe the Chicco Keyfit is also a pretty compact infant seat.  DH has an older F150 with the doors like you described.  We were able to fit our Keyfit 30 in the middle but the front seats has to be pushed up slightly more than we usually have them.  Also, if you can fit an infant seat, you will be able to fit a convertible when the time comes.  The Chicco Nextfit is an incredibly compact convertible and will last you a very long time rear facing.

You cannot LATCH borrow with that set up. The seatbelt install is very easy though, so don't worry!

She would need to check the manual. Ford and Britax allow borrowing but the anchors need to have a certain amount of space to be eligible for borrowing.

ETA: I was checking out the manual and I don't believe there are lower anchors in this vehicle anyways. So seat belt installation in the middle. The Britax is super easy to install with the seat belt anyways.
