Trying to Get Pregnant

expired opks follow-up (FYI)

I've been meaning to write this post for a little while. A month or two ago I asked for opinions on using opks that were 7 mo old expired that I had from when I was TTC #1.

I bought new ones anyway, but I was still curious. So, I tested several of the old strips by using them alongside the new ones (with the same pee). I got the same results every time and the dye looked just as strong. This is still the case now that they are 9 mo expired.

The old strips were maybe not wondfos but the same general kind, purchased from amazon. They were individually packaged.

This is just an FYI -- I'm saying this so that if you have access to a friend's old individually wrapped opks or your own from a previous pregnancy, they might be fine well past the expiry date. Obviously better safe than sorry, but maybe you can use them for things like testing multiple times a day.

  • Interesting! I purchased a box of 20 clearblue digital OPK earlier this month from ebay. They expire January.... Now I won't be afraid to use them come February!!

  • I'm glad that you had a great experience with expired strips but PLEASE do not be telling people to use expired strips.  That is stupid because even though they were accurate for you, they may not always be accurate. For all those dirty lurkers and newbs DO NOT trust expired strips!  If you take OP's advice and use expired strips, DO NOT ask the board if it is accurate or not when you get a positive.  They make expiration dates and instructions for a reason.

This.  Please don't use expired strips.  You may have had a fluke with yours.
