Trouble TTC

NaProTechnology anyone?

My mother is being "helpful" and I appreciate it. But she cannot stop pushing this one thing. To me NaProTechnology looks like charting, temping, and many of the things we do now. Is there something I'm missing? Can someone here explain what this is to me and help me get a better understanding. Please.

I ended up at a "RE" thanks to a referral from my family practice OB/GYN. This "RE" was a NaProTechnologies OB/GYN. They believe in using hormones and medicines that are as close to natural as possible, but they don't believe in any type of assisted reproduction. For me, I wasn't willing to go to a Doctor that wasn't willing to even consider that IVF or IUI were a better option. I also don't have any religious concerns with those practices either.

Like PP said, for unexplained IF or issues with ovulation, they can do pretty much the same thing, but for more complex issues you're better off somewhere else.

Oh...and be prepared to chart their way. You're not supposed to take temps and you base everything off of CM. It seemed a little silly to me. The doc had said she would work with me charting the "other" way, but highly suggested that I use the Creighton method that they endorse for best results.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall for that conversation.  Is she Catholic?
She isn't anymore. She's been Baptist now for several years. But she's more religious now then ever. I'm a very liberal Catholic IMO. I believe in God, the saints, miracles, science, and evolution. I don't judge others beliefs and love to learn about them. All this and I'm still a practicing Catholic.

If only you could be a fly on the wall. I'm guessing it's going to be a frustrating, emotional, heated mess of a conversation. And my mother is Cecilian so it'll be passionate too.

  • I was thinking about trying it out but there is no way I could temp. I'm crazy as it is and wake up too often during the night. There's a center in the city but their hours aren't accommodating. I read rave reviews for the place but didn't read any that said a pregnancy was achieved. I'm sure its a great help for some people, it just didn't seem right for me.

  • @NariaDreaming‌ I missed that point completely. I must have seen charts mentioned and figured it was temping.

  • @RadioCat‌ it's all good. I really don't feel like the thread was hijacked.

To me charting and temping are two different things. Charting can be a compilation of temping, CM, cycle length, period length, and symptoms.

I do not believe that one method of diagnosis and treatment is good for everyone. Everyone and every couple is different. So treatment needs to vary from person to person. Some journeys start with NaPro, others end with it, and some never use it.

  • As for the convo with my mom, it went. She didn't get to talk much and we didn't have much of a discussion. She said something that set me off. "Erollis, you're not even 30. You're to young to be infertile." It's as if she is selectively researching and has been selectively listening to what I've been saying all this time. I'm pretty sure she gets it after tonight.

She is afraid of the fertility meds, the HSG that caused me pain, can't understand why I had my cervix dilated, she is wary of doctors not based in religion. I validated her fears and told her how good our experience has been so far. How good our doctors have been so far. And any good doctor won't let a woman have a litter of kids. And she's completely against IUI and IVF.

  • Hi errolis, i am currently using NaPro and am quite happy with it. It is a slower journey but has been more affordable and extremely educational. I had 2 miscarriages and then a uterine tumour, I have been TTC since 2011. The nice thing with NaPro is that I get ALL of the numbers from my bloodwork; i know where my iron levels are, my vitamin d, etc, and i am able to take what i need to get me back to healthy. Both surgical and medical procedures can be done for women and, contrary to popular belief, they do deal with male factor infertility. You could always speak to a NaPro practitioner if you wanted to know more details. I am also happy to share more information with you.
Stay strong, your baby will come to you, whatever way you choose :)

@lovemyhubby2b Thank you for your response. It's something that I may look into if the time is right or I feel it's necessary to make a switch.

Napro is a slower process. We are going this route as my insurance does not cover nor provide assistance for IUI/IVF. Before shelling out $15k+ I wanted to get to the route cause of my IF. Going for my laparotomy to look for endo and examine my ovaries more this week - which insurance covers at 100%. Didn't like the pushy sales pitch at the RE. Good luck to all!
