Cloth Diapering

Did I mess up my synthetics? (Prepping)

I prepped all my cloth a couple of weeks ago. I did the natural fibers (most of the things I have) and synthetics (pocket shells, poly-blend fitteds, wet bags, PUL covers) separately. But I threw all my cloth wipes (all cotton flannel, 24 bumkins, 12 kushies) with the synthetics. I forgot about washing/prepping them until I only had the one synthetics load left.

Now I'm sitting a work worrying that because the wipes are cotton flannel that they might have "coated" the pocket shells, and fitteds with natural oils. What are the chances of that happening from cotton flannel washed for the first time? If they did deposit on the shells or fitteds, how would I fix this? Just another wash? Multiple washes?

I'm such a cloth diaper newb.

  • I wouldn't do anything - I don't think prepping flannel wipes with synthetic diapers is a big deal. Presumably the flannel was washed before the wipes were made otherwise they would shrink up like prefolds or flats when prepped.

So I'm pretty sure your diapers are fine.

  • Yeah, I'm with AB. I wouldn't worry about it. If there were any oils left in the flannel (doubtful if they are printed), it wouldn't amount to very much. You'd have to wash a heck of a lot of wipes to equal the amount of layers (and oil) in prefolds.

  • I just realized I never followed up to say thanks!

I think the pregnancy induced lack of sleep is making me over-think things lately.
