I'm in Canada as well so we just paid the fee to upgrade to a private room for my one night stay in the hospital. After my insurance the cost was $100. I think DH's insurance will pick up 80 of that.
The only thing about Canada is we do pay a boatload in income (and other for that matter) taxes. Our effective rate of tax is 35-40% of our income.
thanks for pointing this out. I have no desire to turn this into a political debate, but it's helpful for the jealous Americans to be reminded that your healthcare (and the cost of giving birth) isn't truly "free."
For me: $25k sent to insurance. Haven't recieved the final bill yet, but it looks like we will be paying around $3600 according to our insurance website. Plus a whopping $111 for the epidural and $20 for the post-partum meds.
For baby: $7600 sent to insurance. Looks like we will be paying around $360 for her.
3500.00 for all prenatal visits and delivery af home with midwife. 4700.00 for a one night hospital stay for mastitis that wasn't responding to antibiotics. I have a 5,000 deductible so I guess I'm paying the hospital myself, and for terrible care. Only thing they did was switch my antibiotic- not even by IV, just a different pill. Could have done that at home and saved 5,000 bucks!
Mom to 5 wonderful kids: 18ds, 15ds, 13ds, 11dd and baby boy! Why get old when you can get pregnant?
From what I have seen through my online account with ibx it is almost 1.1million- yes, million, lol. I spent almost six weeks total on hospital bedrest, c-section, two ambulance rides and twins who spent 30 and 32 days in the NICU. My mouth hit the floor when I saw it.
I haven't gotten the final bill yet, but i know our family max out of pocket of 8k has already been reached. There's no telling what the final will be for vaginal delivery with epi and emergency c section for the second twin
$51,000 for me and AJ. None complicated vaginal birth with a 2 night stay. AJ's 6 hour stay in the NICU cost almost 10k alone. Insurance paid a little over $8k and we only paid $25 for our deductible.
Hmmmm I haven't seen any bills yet? I'm sure it's a pretty penny just like @matthew24 ... Babies spent 51days in the NICU. I would love to see the bill.
I should add our ded is $300 which was already met with an ER trip when we were in Florida (thank you ladies for helping me through that!) and I don't think we have a co-pay.

I have not seen a bill either. Fortunately, I work for the government and the only perk isvery good insurance and don't pay a dime for maternity, l&d or NICU. I happened to check online to print out my out of pocket charges for taxes and was like, holy shit; and, it is not even complete. I assumed it would be monstrous with the amount of time I was on hbr and nicu but geez. Craziness.
