1st Trimester

Bleeding/passing tissue but hcg still going up . . . ?

TMI?

I think I'm about 5 weeks along and I started bleeding on Thursday. Not spotting bleeding :-/ it was bright red and the flow of a period. My Ob ordered an hcg test on Friday and again on Monday. Also on Monday the bleeding stopped but I passed some tissue, not a lot but enough to confirm that I had miscarried. My Ob called yesterday and said my levels had more than doubled from Friday to Monday and they can only assume I'm still pregnant. I had another blood test done today(don't have the results yet) and scheduled for scan on Monday.

Has any one been through this and still had a normal pregnancy. I mean I know woman bleed but I always thought passing tissue meant a miscarriage for sure.

My poor DH already has his hopes up that we're still pregnant but I'm so nervous.

  • No experience that ended well. I truly hope this is random bleeding & you get good news on Monday.

Thinking of you & wishing you the best.

  • Hello! Big hugs to you! Hopefully this will give you some peace of mind. When i was pregnant with my son i bled from 6wks-18wks, at around 12 (thanks to a good tech, 3rd one mind you) i found out i had a subchorionic hemorrhage which did clear up around 18wks.  However, it was 3 ER visits of lots of bleeding before it was discovered. Bleeding doesn't always have to mean worst case scenario.

  • I passed some tissue at 6 weeks. A few times, at first tiny pieces and then the next day 1 pea-sized piece. I freaked out and went in for an ultrasound immediately and all was well. I even got to hear the heartbeat. Doc said it was the embryo settling in and sloughing off some of the uterine wall. Totally normal. Sure freaked me out though. Hope all is well with you.
  • My college roomie had a hematoma in her uterus and she bled a lot during the first 18 weeks. She did successfully have her daughter but it was tough with all the worrying. Her hcg kept doubling also.

  • Hi everyone, thanks for all of the support and advise on this post. We did end up having a mc 5 days after the bleeding stopped. Hopefully I'll be back on this board soon. Hugs and prayers for everyone!
  • I had a subchorionic hematoma with my DD's pregnancy. I bled a TON (clots, and it was literally like someone had turned on a faucet) at about 7w pregnant. I rushed in for an u/s and there were two healthy heartbeats on the u/s (I was pregnant with twins at the time, we lost one later). Like others have said, your baby is so tiny that "tissue" wouldn't be the baby at this point. It would be lining.

So yes, there is a chance that the bleeding is not miscarriage related. Do you know what your numbers are at this point?
