Baby Names

Dante for non-Italian baby?

Does it work? Last name is hyphenated Irish and German names if it matters.

Re: Dante for non-Italian baby?

  • Personally love the name Dante!  I think it would look cool with any last name.

  • I love Dante. I had it on our list for our first LO. I asked myself the same question you are asking yourself. I never could decide but I love the name and would encourage anyone to use it.

  • I personally don't like the name much. It is on my list of names that remind me too much of hell. That said the only Dante I have ever met was blond and blue eyed so if he was Italian he sure didn't fit the part. I don't think it is a problem.

  • I like it and wouldn't think anything of it being used on a non-Italian baby.

  • I know 2 people with the name Dante- one is of Italian descent and the other is not. I don't think it really matters- it's one of those names that work for anyone.

The one Dante I know is African-American. It totally works.
  • Love Dante! I know a 10 month old Dante and he's not Italian (that I know of--not predominantly anyway), and I don't normally think Italian.

  • I like Dante, Italian or not!
  • My good friend named her son Dante and while she is Italian, her DH is not (and their last name is Ba.con). It totally works so I say go for it :)

  • I like Dante a lot.  I think it depends more on the LN name than of the origin of the LN name.
