I love Dante. I had it on our list for our first LO. I asked myself the same question you are asking yourself. I never could decide but I love the name and would encourage anyone to use it.
I personally don't like the name much. It is on my list of names that remind me too much of hell. That said the only Dante I have ever met was blond and blue eyed so if he was Italian he sure didn't fit the part. I don't think it is a problem.

I know 2 people with the name Dante- one is of Italian descent and the other is not. I don't think it really matters- it's one of those names that work for anyone.
I actually know a baby dante. Hes an adorable little man olive skin blavk hair dark eyes. I love his name because i know a lot of jaxons, aidens, jadens, and caidens

Every Dante I have ever met has been African-American.
