Cloth Diapering

Okay, should I use Dawn??

I know, I know, but I'm being serious.

I just found out that daycare has been using Desitin whenever they use cream. LO has never really had a diaper rash, so I don't know how often it's been used. But she smelled like it when she came home yesterday, and so I talked to daycare today. They were unaware that Desitin is not CD safe and haven't been using the CJ's I've provided because they can't use any diaper creams, or anything, without a medication form filled out (which I did today). I've talked to two of the ladies previously about using the CJ's, but I think there was a breakdown in communication (and there is a language barrier with some of the caregivers).

We've also had a few weeks of increased leaking, so now I'm thinking repelling vs user error.

Soooo, what do I actually do to strip out the Desitin? I'll do a hot water strip this weekend regardless.

edit: we use Best Bottom stay dry and cotton/hemp inserts.

Can you see spots of Desitin on your diaps? Then teeny tiny drop of blue dawn and scrub with your fingers or a soft tooyhbrush till it comes out. Also I'd tear DC an new one for putting any sort of cream on LO that you didn't supply. That should be illegal if it isn't. I'm confused how they can use Desitin w/out a consent form but make you sign one for CJ s.

I can't really see it as much as I can smell it on the inserts.

I'm sure it's in their policy somewhere. It's actually a very well-run center, and they supply almost everything- diapers, food, diaper creams (obviously!). So I guess it's their policy to get permission to use something NOT provided by them?

Oh boy, spot cleaning all these bad boys is going to take some work. I have roughly 30 inserts in rotation. Boo!

I effing hate Desitin.  I have used it on 2 of my 3 girls unsuccessfully.  The first one screamed bloody murder when I put it on her.  I'm guessing it stung.  6 years later I was out of town and my second one had a rash so I borrowed someone else's Desitin and her rash got worse!  I will never use it again. Luckily I have learned my lesson before I subjected DD#3 to it.

ETA- I would just spot clean in the sink or tub with Dawn.  In case you don't know...do not put it in your washer!

  • Oh no! I hate desitin, it stinks so badly! E's old DC put it on her once (that we didn't provide or authorize) and I smelled it the second I picked her up. Ew!
Maybe try blue dawn and scrubbing in your tub? Then a few hot water rinses in the washer?

  • Yeah, thats not cool. Rosie's old DC did that once. She ended up with a staph infection from it. It was another kids diaper cream.
