Walking and cramping

I'm currently 32 weeks pregnant and I have found that in the last few days whenever I walk longer than 30 minutes I start to cramp up in my stomach and back. Once I rest and drink water they go away, but does this mean I should stop working out?

Re: Walking and cramping

  • I have the same thing. I work retail and am walking around all day, plus my regular walks. But my doctor just told me it's my body telling me to rest. So I just sit for about 15 minutes when the cramps start and then go from there. She never said anything about not working out, just to listen to your body, rest, and stay hydrated.

  • I'd probably take it easier (slow down the pace, don't go more than 30 minutes, etc).  And make sure you're well hydrated before you start.

  • I think it's just your body telling you to tone down the intensity, not necessarily stop altogether.

  • I would say that its your body saying to relax.....I always know the days I do too much because I always feel lousier with cramping and pain.....

  • My DH is a quick walker and has longer legs than me, so I frequently have to ask him to slow down now. I get a stitch and then I start to cramp and have to support my belly with my hands. It also makes my sciatica flare up in my left butt cheek, so I just end up walking plain weird.

Ah the sexy joys of pregnancy!
