@literachick I am SO happy you were able to stock up on some essential items for baby! And freakin' lucky on that car seat! Gotta love when things ring up significantly lower than they should )
Just an FYI to those of you asking about the quality of the diapers. I used them yesterday on DS and they seemed to work just fine. I have not had any complaints so far for day use.
I did put one on him last night and he woke up with those crystals all over him. I personally wouldn't recommend them for night time use, but that's just my opinion. I figured I would share my experience, though, since there were some questions. I plan to keep using them, but for day use only.
@tourqeyes did you try the nighttime training pants? I almost bought some for later, but wanted to wait about stocking up until I knew better about quality.
Would love to hear anybody else's experiences with them!
Also, does anybody have any idea on about how many wipes a baby will go through? I know there are several factors in this, but I'm starting to second guess myself. I currently have 30 packs of wipes for LO and I can't help but look at them and think it's more than enough. However, I know that I have gone through at least two jumbo boxes of wipes (20 refill packs each case) plus countless others. My mother and MIL provided wipes for the times that they kept him during the first year (M-F 9-5), so there's even more that I don't have a number on. Am I crazy? Do I really need like triple what I have?
I have not tried them yet since I just popped open a Up&Up package, but let me go ahead and open one of the walgreen's ones tonight and let you know tomorrow morning. @abchittam
I second the question about number of wipes needed....I was estimating that I would use one 72-ct pack per week? Does that sound right?!
Wipes are much more abundant now for me than there were when he was younger.
Just roughly estimating an average newborn changing schedule, let's say, 10 diapers a day, so 70 a week. Depending on how often and how many wipes you plan on using per diaper change (maybe 1.5-2 on average?). I would say you would need between one and two packs a week for a newborn.
I am much more conservative with wipes now than I was in the beginning and obviously my 2.5 yr old son goes through less diapers a day & in the middle of potty training, so the Target packs of 100 wipes, I go through one pack probably every two or three weeks.
<insert disclaimer of how all babies are different here> Just my two cents.
You girls! I'm about to pack up DD and hit some Walgreens!
I did some research last night because I tend to buy chemical free diapers and wipes. These actually rank fairly well for sensitivity. For the wipes, the unscented ones rank well. Very low in chemicals and rank the same as my organic ones. That's for the Well Beginnings Natural or pretty much any unscented ones.
If anyone else cares to post a picture of their stash from Walgreens, I tend to enjoy those! LOL
@pfeilele- that would be awesome! I'm a coupon freak and I love good deals. I'm so tempted to go out to do just this one thing but I have to be selfless and think about DS. I love seeing the wisconsin people! I was losing hope for wisconsin! Lol.
It worked! Went to the one on old sauk and they only had 1 newborn which I bought along with a size 1. But, don't worry... We use cloth most of the time so I won't take them all
Also, for what it's worth, we don't wipe for pee. Only poop. That's what his pedi told us when he was only a few weeks old. We wipe if it has been a while, but definitely not every time.

You know what... you are so right. I mean they're boys so you don't really need to wipe their pee right?

We are the same with DS, but I'm afraid that my wipes will double for DD. That's one of the reasons I am so confused about how many to have this go around! I have already decided to go get more wipes tomorrow.
I still suggest cleaning up more often than not in the beginning as long as there is no irritation - keep the circumcision area (if that applies) clean for the first few months.
I'm so nervous about the circumcision. I'm like in sheer panic mode. I don't even want to touch it! I'm used to vaginas! After 3 DDs this is going to be quite the change! We are a female house hold! Even the pets are female. Lol. I'm stocking up on alot of wipes. We use them for everything even to wipe the dogs paws when they come in from outside.
TBH I've blocked it out. Someone else will have to comment here since I need a refresher when we go through it again. I feel like in the beginning they didn't want me to touch it and maybe only clean with water only and dab dry until the ring came off. After I'm not sure if there were requirements but I had to pull the foreskin back every few days, so once everything is healed I will want to make sure it is as clean as possible the first few months.
My DH and I agreed to have it done as we have looked at the health benefits and it we decided just because we are scared to have it done, it's whay is best for him. I have a feeling I will use more wipes with DS then any of my DDs. He is more panicked and scared than I am. He cried when I read the procedure to him. I'm more of the hard ass and he's the sensitive one. He suggested just getting 80-100 packs of wipes at least. Lol.
I now have a backseat full of wipes, newborn and size 1 diapers... Maybe enough for twins?.... I think I shouldn't buy anymore. Cleaned out three stores!

ETA: I had no idea where to stop at age for size 4s so that number may be way inflated (I put it at 18 months -- but DS we are trying to potty train now and he's been in them only 10 months, I'm hoping to have him potty trained before another 8 months from now). I know some babies go into size 5s, but for my family I was trying to potty train him before he got out of 4s. I also know babies much younger than 2 where they were already using fours. My kid was pretty textbook when it came to sizes.
ETA2: I got my numbers just from looking at a few websites and you may also find this useful:
You ladies are awesome with the info! I'm having a boy and factored that in to my one pack per week "calculation," but then forgot to mention it. I'm with you about not normally wiping for pee, unless we have a smelly situation going on. Both I and DH have sensitive skin, so I'm guessing LO will too. Going to buy a bunch more of the unscented wipes when my Walgreens gets restocked later in the week! I think I'm going to try out some newborn diapers too, since I'm already set on sizes 1 and 2 from Target! Thanks gals, and keep the deals coming! I'll be sure to share if I see any!
I know I'm kind of late to this party but I just wanted to add that it is also Seniors Day at Walgreens. I travelled to NY today from Canada with my mom to stock up and saved an extra 20% because she was over 55. Can't beat that! Too bad we don't have deals like this in Canada.

Aw man! Wish I would have known this sooner! I would have raided walgreens with my grandmother.
Such a good deal! I got 6 packs of 1&2 sizes and a ton of wipes! But I'm scared to buy more, I hear (FTM) that some diapers are more effective for certain body types or that some diapers give some babies rashes. Thoughts?
I bought two packs of Newborn, two size Ones and, two Size 2s, two packs of pullups for DD and 10 packages of wipes. My total was about $35. And imagine my surprise when I put in my Walgreens frequent card thing and they said I earned another $5 off!
Does anyone else find this addicting? Should I confess now that I already have a stash of jarred baby food because it was organic and a store was going out of business? It was like 30 cents a jar.

I CD, so won't be stocking up on too many diapers (we use disposables when traveling), but I agree that you might not want to by a ton of them for the reasons you mentioned. You just never know.
$35 is what one box of diapers costs me. I figured if I hate them, I didn't lose much.
I'm rather picky about diapers and wipes with chemicals, and because they rate very low for chemicals and sensitivity, it's well worth it. Their Well Beginnings brand tends to rate very well for chemicals and such, as long as you stay away from the fragrance wipes (if that's something you are even into).

This is true. I try to buy things with low/no chemicals to avoid this. Just posted above
Truly, this is a cheap deal. IMO, you wouldn't be out very much. But, I'm a shopper like that.
Thanks @tourqeyes! The only reason I opened mine were for the quality test so I would know before the sale ended.
Training pants:
@abchittam they held up well. I will say they had more coverage in a2t/3t walgreens than 3t/4t UP&UP but still snug, so no leaking.
Was a little more difficult to get off ( pull apart at the sides) but could have just been that one.
No leaks, contained everything overnight.

Yes, I think that is an accurate statement.
I have personally never had any issues with any diapers, wipes or formula.
Just want to add to this that I am going back today to load up for my local Diaper Bank. You ladies might want to consider that option if you're looking to make any charitable donations or if you have any extra diapers leftover when your kids grow out of sizes.
It's just like a food bank and offers diapers and wipes to mothers who need them. It really is heartbreaking to hear the stories from some of my social worker friends when they see babies wearing the same diaper for a day or two at a time, with raging, raw diaper rash, because the mother's can't afford to change them as often as needed.
This is my comeback for anyone who ever says couponing can get out of control and you get too much of something. You can always donate it?
