So yes, spring is coming and we're finally going to get off our butts this spring and get Chris a tricycle. So I was all excited about it and then I remembered - helmets. Kids need to wear helmets when riding trikes. Chris won't even wear a hat in the dead of winter. He'll wear a hood on his coat, jacket but not a hat, so how on earth am I going to get him to wear a helmet?
We did this with the ABA therapist. First the helmet sat on the table while he worked or ate. Then he had to touch it. He was given a preferred food item for doing so (Annie's bunny gummies). Then he had to put it on his head for a few seconds. Repeat. We gradually increased the time until he was wearing it for hours at a stretch.
Safety gear is non-negotiable and tears don't move me, though.
Thanks - he's not in ABA anymore but he does get OT. Maybe I'll talk to his OT and PTs about it to see if they'd be willing to help if we sent in a helmet.

OMG! I was looking for a solution for DS hating hats. This looks good for hat wearing and helmet wearing!

Good luck!
