Hello everyone
My name is Sheilagh and my hubby and I are trying for our second child, IVF/ICSI. We have run into a major road block. My DH was diagnosed with testicular cancer last year and had to have one removed. He is cancer free so far but was put on meds, Clomid, about 5 months ago to help with sperm production. He was really low before, they only found 20 sperm when we had our daughter and that was with 2 testis. We just had a SA done about month ago and there was 0 sperm, we are devastated. He is still on Clomid but they added Conception XR to see if that helps. Has anyone else been through this? Did the meds work? Really hoping this is not the end for us.
Sorry to hear about that DX, but that is great news that he is now cancer free. I hope the medicine will work for him. Have you considered donor sperm if the meds don't work?
Good luck.

My DH has MFI. His first SA was 0 and it improved since then without meds. I have heard that a lot of factors can affect the results. I'm not going to lie your husband's count is probably really low like mine but on the first test I wouldn't just count it as 0. I've heard to ask for a glass container instead of plastic. Also make sure you do it at a time when he's healthy. I wouldn't count on normal levels but I would definitely recommend a second test. GL!
Welcome. I have no advice, but I hope that the meds work!

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, been having trouble with TB letting me post from my tablet.
Anyway, my DH is on clomid, it is supposed to help with testosterone levels which in turn should boost sperm count. It usually takes about 90 days or 3 months for sperm parameter changes in SA. This is because it is about that long from when sperm is made to when it is used, hope that makes sense.
DD conceived after 3 years of ttc.
MFI - DH had varicocele repair and took Clomid to get DD b. 02/2010
TTC #2 since 6/2010 10/2012 DH diagnosed with Epilepsy A few failed IUIs summer 2012 and 2013. DH taking clomid and waiting to see if he needs another vericocele repair. Hoping for a 2015 baby or babies. Wishing, hoping, waiting.
@AprilDrew04 he has been on Clomid for 5 months already but am hoping maybe because of the surgery it's just taken his body a little longer to start reproduce sperm. Is the Clomid working for your hubby?
It helped some the first time, that combined with vericocele repair surgery we got DD. Will know if it is having any impact this time in a week.

Actually, one of my best friends (a guy) from work went through this. He was diagnosed with cancer many years ago, but is in remission. He & his wife wanted a baby, so they started trying. He was in the same boat, 0 sperm count. I know he went through hellish appointments. I know he took some meds from "coast science" that helped cause magically over time, he did the SA and there were sperm! He & his wife did 4 iui and were going to move to IVF but she got pregnant on the last iui. She's due with a baby boy in August. Keep hope- it can happen!!!

April/May 2014- Benched due to cysts/enlarged ovaries
@AprilDrew04 Prying it all works out for you this time!
@Mommalawyer that is wonderful news!!! That makes me feel like there is some hope, thank you so much. Do you know how long it took, around about, to get him to start producing again?
I don't have any direct experience with this to contribute. But the comment about glass vs. plastic containers did make me think of something.
BPA. It's in everything - the more you can lower your (his) exposure the better. It's really a synthetic estrogen that is used to harden plastic. So, while you likely know to not buy a sippy cup with it, most people don't think about all the other places it hides. It's in your cookware if you have any sort of non-stick/teflon (it leeches out at about the temp required to cook bacon), it's in your food storage containers, in the lining of soup and canned veggie cans, it's even on the printed receipts you get from cc machines. And it screws with fertility for everyone.
So, just had the thought that if you are spending a few months working on meds and upping the count, can't hurt to remove other possible factors as well. Not an expert, but wanted to throw it out there.
Trying for #2 with IVF after damage done in a D&C left me with one functioning (but too scarred) ovary and tube to get pregnant safely without assistance. It's a really, really long story, but that is the gist of it. We have one daughter (whose c-section birth started this roller coaster) born in 2012 after a miscarriage in 2011.
Failed 1st attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 3, 1 frozen embryo saved) in December 2013.
Failed 2nd attempt at IVF (Fresh ET day 5, 2 frozen embryos saved) in February 2014.
