PSA: 4/6/etc. month doc appointments

We just got home from our 4-month checkup. Today is March 17 and LO's 4-month birthday is March 22. We were not able to get his immunizations taken care of at the appointment because the CDC apparently doesn't recognize them as valid unless they are administered within 4 days of his actual 4-month birthday. 

...today is 5 days before. Now I have to take him in again next week to get the shots done.

Just thought I'd throw this info out there for those of you making your 4/6/etc. month well-baby checkups. The appointment desk may not be aware of this requirement so make sure you are!

You're confused. It has nothing to do with "within four days of his month day" and the CDC. You have to be far enough away from the last shot in a series of vaccines to get the next one in the series.
For example: H was born 10/24 and we got his 2 month shots on 12/26 (didn't want to get his vaccines on Christmas Eve), so they wouldn't schedule the 4 month vaccines until 2/26 or later so that there was the full two months in between one shot and the next.

That's terribly annoying, it would have been nice if your doctor gave you the heads up before going down there

The doctor told us to either push back her 6 or 9 month cause she can't get her 1 year shots till she is a year old.

Since she was a fall baby they gave her shots a couple of weeks early to help protect here. (6 weeks instead of 8 weeks)

I checked with my doctor today because our 6 month visit was scheduled I week before he is actually 6 months. They said CDC doesn't care but insurance companies have started giving them a hard time so I changed the appointment. Thanks!

That's bullshit your office didn't tell you that when you booked.  Hopefully you won't get charged a copay for that visit.

@Zilly13 Fortunately we have really good insurance so we don't even pay copays except for prescriptions. And I don't have to make an appointment for the vaccinations since it's just a nurses' visit; I can just drop in whenever. But still annoying.
