November 2013 Moms

Am I the first N13-er that this has happened to? (not a BFP)

So I know that I'm not the first mom that this has happened to, obviously... but today I was sitting on the floor with DS on my lap.  DD was on the couch behind us.  DD proceeds to fall or jump (she says fall, I think jump) off the couch hitting me in the arm that has DS and there goes DS from my lap face first onto the floor.

Yes, it was only about a 4 inch fall.
Yes, he landed on carpet.
But man did I cry.

So did DD.  I think DS cried for less than a minute and then was all smiley like what's wrong with you girls?

I called the pediatrician (because I am a worrier) and they assured me if there's no mark, no bleeding and he's acting normal that there is no reason to worry.

I just feel so bad :(

Anyone else had the first little bump or tumble yet?

Re: Am I the first N13-er that this has happened to? (not a BFP)

  • Yeah that happened to me the other day. I was helping DS sit on the floor and DD started doing something she wasn't supposed to so I turned to tell her to stop and DS faceplated into the carpet. He cried for a minute or two and then was fine.
  • Loading the player...
  • I accidentally bonked his head on a doorway when he was in his carrier for the first time. Man did he scream. He has hated the carrier ever since. I am very clumsy so I am surprised I have not done worse
  • I haven't done that but I have dropped my cell phone on her head before. =/

  • My DH bumped E's head hard on the crib frame as he was putting him to sleep. E was uncharacteristically happy in his crib afterwards. We were concerned about his hyper fine behavior. There is nothing this family doesn't worry about.

You never forget the first bump. DS1's was the first time we put him in a wooden restaurant high chair. His head flop right onto the table. DD's was the day I brought her home from the hospital and cut the tip of her finger cutting her nails. This little guy accidentally got head butted by DS1. He screamed and DS1 screamed louder because he felt so bad.
  • I was wearing DD in the Moby the other day and as I went to put my coat on to go outside, somehow I managed to scratch her with my fingernail! It actually bled a tiny bit too. She cried for a minute or two and then was fine. I felt awful! I immediately went and cut my nails short. And then today I was visiting my cousin who has a 2 year old. He proceeded to throw a his spoon and it hit DD on the head. Poor thing, she cried pretty good with that one. :(

  • Not yet but I am sure it will happen sooner or later.  I do wonder how he doesn't cry when he head butts my face.  He thrashes his head so hard, the other day I felt like my lip would start bleeding.

Also, I dropped a board book on his face today. I hope I don't ruin reading for him if he develops a fear of the book hitting him in the nose!
My guy knocked the book out of my hand into his face and cut his nose pretty bad. It was awful! He had a huge scab. Mom of the year here.
  • I pushed this to the back of my mind probably because it was so horrifying.  A few months ago, while I was nursing N, the glass I was drinking out of broke over him.  I don't know how it happened, but my tooth must have hit in the right spot or something.  I was so scared but thank God not one piece touched him.  I was home alone, so I was sitting there in shock trying not to move too much while picking up shards of glass off me.  I threw away those POS glasses right away!  Damn you Martha Stewart!

  • Thanks everyone for sharing your stories.  I will admit that I woke LO up a few times last night just to make sure I could.  :)
  • I also clipped his finger trying to trim his nails.. He cried, I cried and hid finger bled for like an hour! And I was getting him out of his seat and caught his finger on the clip and didn't realize it. Yea he screamed.. I cried..
  • I haven't bonked DD2 yet, but DD1 was not watching where she was running and fell on her in her bouncy seat around a month old. She also stepped on her arm while DD2 was playing on her playmat a few weeks ago.

With DD1 I bonked her head on the doorframe to the bathroom when she was a few weeks old. I was home alone with her and called my mom sobbing. My mom noted that I was crying and DD1 wasn't so she was probably ok. I will never forget it though, I was so upset!

  • I put my baby down in his swing for a second to tie my 2 year old's shoes the other day. I was rushing and literally right there so didn't strap him in. He fell out of the swing and landed on floor. He landed on his side and had no marks on his head but i wasn't sure if he hit his head at all. He seemed ok but I was terrified. Called Pediatrician. He said to take him to ER to be sure he was ok. They examined him and said as long as he cried right away he was fine. Worst feeling in the world because it could have been prevented if I had just strapped him in. I keep reliving it in my head and am so mad at myself for not using the straps. I'm so lucky he's ok and will never do something so stupid again.
