Dogs are Atticus (male) and Finch (female). Atticus is really popular and I would like it on a kid, but not for us. We call Finch "Finny" for short so now all versions of "Fin" are wasted and DH really likes them. Finnian is a family name, but sorry, veto. I will not have a kid and a dog in the house with the same name.
Named my mom's cat "Sage" about 15 years ago, so that's out too and wasted.
And also I love the name Penelope, but MIL's name is just Penny. So thats out too.

I was literally thinking about this exact thing the other day! We have two dogs: one named Eleanor NN Ellie and the other is Vivienne Leigh. I would have LOVED to use either Eleanor or Vivienne for a girl and now I'm kicking myself for wasting them on dogs
As many pets I've had, I don't feel like I've wasted many except, Hannah. But I would still possibly use it, considering that cat has been gone for a LONG time, and DH wouldn't know I had a cat named that. Lol.
Our most recent pets name was Delilah. Although I personally would never use it as a human name, I don't dislike it on humans. I just think of my dog every time I see it. Sorry. Lol.
Other pet names I've had, Matilda, Annabelle, Chester, Charlie, Sam, Milo, & Hissybritches.
SO liked Nolan for a boy, but being from Louisiana, I named my dog named NOLA. (Which I wasn't crazy about Nolan, so to me it's not a "waste", but I guess it counts) :P
I have always like the name Stella, but my cousin has a dog with that name. I mentioned the name to my mom and she immediately said, "yeah but that's x's dogs name, and she named her after the beer". Womp womp.

I'm not sure if this would be enough to stop me if I really loved the name enough.
I get to name my husband's guitars whenever he gets a new one. He says they are all female and so the last two I've named Jane and Scarlett. We refer to them by those names and everything so now that we are actually expecting I am kicking myself because I love both of those girl names.
I wasted the names Sophia and Enzo on my dogs. Sophia is too popular for me to use. I love Enzo, but I don't think I'm brave enough use it for a child!
Re: "Wasted" Names
Logan
It's my 15 year old dog's name. Logan wasn't even popular when we named the dog.
@ladymouse
How about STEVE HOLT! instead?
