"Wasted" Names

What are some names you've "wasted" on a pet or something?

I loooooovvveeee the name Fiona, but I can't use it because it's my cat's name. My family (extended also) all know Fiona and she's not as nice to them as she is to people in the household, so they have a negative-ish impression of the name. Why didn't we go with Muffins or something??

My cats are Chubs and stinky. Darn! If only I'd known I'd have kids I could have given those names to...

I agree, but it doesn't feel as "wasted" to me because I doubt I'd ever actually use it on a person. It's a great name for a child, I just know the only way I'd use it is on a pet. Atticus is probably more interesting than Thomas to most people, but I think I'd be more likely to use Thomas on a baby.

I agreed to name our dog Beau because I did not want it for a kid. DH loves the name. Our cat is named Kiki. Definitely NMS for a kid.

Is it weird that both my boys have the middle names of cats I have had? I named my cat I got in college James because I loved the name. My husband, who I met later has the middle name James and it is a tradition in his family to use that middle name so we gave it to our first son. My cat growing up was named Charles. It was chosen because that would have been my name had I been a boy. It also happens to be my grandfather's, my husband's grandfather, and the best friend at our wedding's name. We chose it as a middle name for our son we are expecting Ina few weeks.

I guess if I ever have to name a girl, her middle name will have to be either Rita or Hera after one of our dogs.

I named my bicycle Clementine, because I was sure DH would never agree to it. As soon as I started talking about it, he says 'that could have been on the list for a (probably mythical) 3rd kid. Grrrrrr

Daisy is one of our dogs and I kinda dig it for a human baby And our other dog is Bella and I love Belle.

One of our dogs is Agnes (Aggie) which I don't mind using for her because it's a total GP kid name for me. Our cat is Huckleberry (Huck) and I do think Huck for a kid is cute, but no. Our other dog is the only one who I kind of love his nickname as a nickname for a kid. His name is Archimedes, but we call him Archie. Using Archie all the time has really warmed me up to the idea of it as a kid's nn, it would be so cute on a little boy.

I've always loved the name Chloe for a girl, but I had a cat named Chloe so can't use that one lol.

We named our dog Penny. I love it, and Penelope, I just wasn't thinking about children when we got her.

I have considered using Penelope on a child, with the theory that by the time she was a teen or adult and wanted to go by Penny, the dog would be long dead.

I have close friends with cats or dogs named Charlie, Oliver, Jack, Sophie and Fiona. Don't love any of those where it was my #1, but they are all nice names.

Silas and Oliver are cats past that I love the names. I think Silas is my more 'wasted' name, though I can't imagine him having been anything else!

Sebastian. Loved the name and wasn't thinking about kids when I was 20. Still adore the name but it'll always be a cat in my brain even though he died a couple of years ago. By the time we got our next two cats I had had the "what if I want to name a baby" lightbulb moment and both of our current cats have names I'd never use on a child (one is Japanese and thus culturally inappropriate, the other is from a very dark book that I wouldn't want my elementary/middle school kid reading)

Our dog is Shelby but I would never use it on a child. I don't have any wasted names.

I've wasted Lexi, Toby, Kodi and Kayla on pet names.  Not sure I'd actually use them but it stinks that I didn't go with more animal names for our pets.

I love the name Katherine (nn Kate) but we went and named our dog Kade 10 years ago! And when I wanted to name my DD Katherine, my DH said "Kate and Kade? Really?"

DH and I like Riley, but his younger brother recently named their dog Riley, so that killed that name choice. I also like Chloe, but my dog growing up was Chloe, so can't use that one either.

I'm mad that I used Daisy as my dog name! Also I used my grandfathers name, Samuel, as a middle name for my son. I'm happy I did but it would have been a great little brother name too!

My pets are Charlie, Cricket and Abraham. I would have loved to use Charles/Charlie for a boy now.

However, we have Maisie listed as a girls name now, and I had a kitten when I was little named Maizee...oh well.

Our Beagle is Starla - which I don't really feel like we "wasted" but we could have used it for a daughter someday. The one that is causing problems is our Basset Hound, Butters. While we call him Butters - his registered name is Leopold Butters Stotch after the South Park character. Now that we are pregnant with a boy we find ourselves really liking Leopold (Leo). DH thinks it's no big deal, but I can't justify using it since "technically" our dog's name is Leopold even though he is never called that.

Our turtle's name is Zen - which would never be considered for human offspring.

Our cat is Minette. I love the name, but wouldn't ever use it on a child.

Our puppies are Harley Quinn and Marvel Lee and DH has already made mention of a daughter named Harley which is out.  As far as cats, we've got Pooka, Klunk and Mr. Murray.  Luckily, we used more animal-like names for the cats, aside from Murray.

My dogs middle name is Fiona, and I have previously had cats named Penelope and Oliver. Oh, and DH's old 60's VW beetle is named Otto. I love all these names.

I feel like that's a really large rabbit as far as rabbits go. Is it? Sorry, I am fixated on the rabbit!

My dogs are Charlie (boy) and 3 girls are Susie Sammy and Bella.    I wouldn't use Susie or Bella but am bummed I can't use Charlie (Charlotte) or Sammy (Sammantha) for future girls names.

Me too! Love Charlotte, nn Charlie, but we named our female dog Charlie (it just suited her!)

Our dogs name is Lexi. DH got her before we started dating so I had no choice on her name, but it kinda sucks because I love the name Alexa and I'm never going to get to use it because of the possible Lexi nickname.

My husband loves the name Tobias (despite Arrested Development), but I had a neurotic, idiotic mini Schnauzer with that name.

We have two dogs: Walter and Jim. H had a dog named Max before me. I would never use Jim (family drama) but I am kind of crushing on Walter for a child a bit now. Oh well....
