BM intake question.

I hope this doesn't get too long.

I was EBF for 6 months, then came back to work and LO refused the bottle. I only work 3 days a week but I am away from LO for 10.5 hours. During that time he drinks around 5-6 oz that my mom manages to give along with cereals. When I come back from work he nurses twice before going to bed and 2-3 times per night. Then the days I don't work he drinks normally (7-8 times in 24 hours).

I've tried everything to make him drink but he refuses if it's not the boob: sippy cup, normal cup, straws!

My question is: is 5 oz. enough during the day? Sometimes he accepts around 1 oz of water in a normal cup.

I asked our doc and she said it's ok if he doesn't show signs of dehydration but somehow I am still worried. Also, if your LO had this problem, how did you manage to wean if he refuses to drink anything else?

We are getting closer to 1 year and I will probably work more days so he needs to start drinking from other sources but I don't know what else to do. I am sure at dc they won't be as patient as my mom.

Re: BM intake question.

  • If no signs of dehydration and weight gain is ok, I wouldn't worry.

  • thanks, I just needed some reassurance... it just seemed weird that he would go without drinking during the day but @somerandomchick, you are right, if some babies STTN without eating that means mine is fine going through the day without bm. Weight gain and dirty diapers are ok :)

  • Weight and dirty diapers should be monitored. If nothing is unusual about them then I think your LO is fine. :)
