Baby Names

Hadrian

I'm sure nobody who isn't Canadian will have heard of him, but a fairly prominent Canadian politician, Justin Trudeau, just named his new baby son Hadrian. I thought it was a pretty interesting choice. Sibs are Xavier James and Ella-Grace.

Re: Hadrian

  • I like Xavier and Ella, but Hadrian really isn't floating my boat. It just sounds like a mixer of the name Adrian and the word Hydrant, haha. Yuck.

  • I kind of like it. All three names are "nice enough".

Hadron Collider.  It's the only thing I can think of.

I've heard of Justin Trudeau down here in the old US of A :-)
I also thought this... cuz I watch Big Bang Theory. ;)

  • Naming your kid after a Roman emperor is a bit grandiose.
  • I like it but I would never use it. I prefer Adrian.

Honest question: Do you feel the same way about Julius?

We all have weird lines.  I like Julius, Aurelius, Alexander, and a lot of Roman names.  But if someone named their kid Ramses, I'd be all side-eye-y.

    I feel hypocritical.
Hmmm.  I kind of feel that way about Aurelius.  I feel like Julius and Alexander have enough history as regular-people names that they're tougher to side-eye.  Though I'd probably use Julian instead of Julius (and August instead of Augustus, to take another example).  Marcus is fine, too.

But honestly, any of these names are better than so many of the Brayden/Jayden random made-up names these days.
  • The Hadrian Wall is a part of Scotish history, my husband told me the significance but I've forgotten it. He suggested it for DS, I vetoed it. I have never heard it used IRL before.
  • @bromios Thank you for the review! DH would be upset if he knew I forgot one of his history lessons!
