XP Ameda Purely Yours

XP on the Breastfeeding board

Has anyone used this pump? If so, what did you (or do you) think of it?

DH and I went to a breast feeding class last night and the lactation specialist had one to show us. She said it was a good one but that Medela is the best. Naturally I wanted the Medela. However, our insurance covers our pump at 100% and they are sending me the Ameda (I didn't get a choice).

Thanks for any input :)

  • I have this one. It's okay. I used it a few times but being a SAHM I really didn't do a ton of pumping because my son was always with me. I bf for like 13 months and used it most in the first 2 months. I mean it's free so try it out and see how it works.

  • I also got mine free from the insurance company and loved it for the short time I used it. Bonus: it's a closed system, so I'm reusing it with this new baby as well. I honestly felt like I got more milk from my Ameda pump than I did from the hospital grade pump I used in the hospital after the boys were born (which was a Medela Symphony pump).

  • Actually I have this pump and have heard it is better than Medela due to closed system (cleaner) and it worked great. I nursed/pumped for a year with dd. believe most people buy Medela due to more marketing spent by them....not that it's better.
  • I had one with my first. I used it everyday for 15 months and it was fine for my needs. Never had any issues!

  • I have no personal experience but I'm curious to see what the ladies have to say about this post.
My insurance will cover ANY pump up to $750 but it takes 10-12 weeks to be reimbursed. That being said, we are single income, $350 is a lot of money, and 3 months is a long time to wait to be reimbursed.
My SIL has offered to give me her Ameda- she got it through her insurance and never used it since someone have her a Medela (which she loved).
So..I'm still debating. Buy a new one and wait 3 months to be reimbursed or try the Ameda and not have to worry about any of it??
  • I also have the Ameda and really like it.

@fyafighterwife86, I would just take the Ameda! :)
