Babies: 0 - 3 Months

3am feeding

I have an 11 week old- goes down at night around 930 on his own and wakes anywhere from 2-330am.  He will nurse and go back down and wake again at 530 to nurse.  A lot of people told me he should be sleeping through the night.  Last night he woke at 1:45am but not crying.  I waited 20 minutes while he flopped around in his crib awake.  I gave him a pacifier and after 10 minutes of him fussing, picked him up and rocked him.  He fell asleep on me and when I put him in his crib he woke back up again.  This ended up with us having to rock him to sleep (first time we have ever had to do this, but we didn't feed him).  He did not cry for hunger, which leads me to believe when he usually wakes at the 3am hour that he is not hungry.  What should I do?  Nurse him like I've been doing?  Any advice is appreciated :)

  • I've read that you should nurse or pump at least once every three hours, with one 6-hour stretch overnight to keep up your supply if you EBF. As an extra bonus, this also helps most women avoid the return of their period.

  • My baby is 9.5 weeks and does sometimes sleep through the night. When she wakes after 5-6 hrs I offer a paci she will either go right back to sleep or continue to wake if she doesn't take the paci I feed her. Most likey your baby is waking because it's hungry 9:30-3:30 is a really good strech of sleep for your baby lots of parents don't even get yhat

  • My 3.5 year old doesn't sleep through the night.
Expecting an 11 week old to is ridiculous. Only waking once in that span of time is great, enjoy that!
  • This is my LO's exact schedule! (11 weeks old). Last night she went to bed 9:30, awoke around 2am for a feeding, and back to sleep ( with some occasional fussing) until 5:30. She is BF with supplementing.

Who told you your baby should be sleeping through the night?? My LO is almost 3 months and routinely gets up 2 times a night. She is easily put back to sleep for the most part. Each baby is different, don't compare your baby to others. If he's hungry feed him, especially if he's breastfed.

Agreed! My DS wakes up between once and twice a night. Just depends. With my daughter she was still waking up once a night until she was about 7 months old when she was eating solids more. I honestly don't mind though because I normally don't fall asleep until 2am anyhow lol.
