Is anyone out there considered high risk because they had a VSD? I'm 34, and already have a son. My midwife practice I used in my first pregnancy didn't think it was a big deal, and only ordered an echocardiogram for the BABY at 24 weeks b/c it is considered hereditary. My son does not have a hole in his heart. But for this pregnancy, the new OB practice I'm using seem to want ME to undergo testing as well, and want me to see a perinatal, high risk doctor when I get my a/s done.
I'm guessing it is just a precaution, but I was wondering if I was being naive about the risks. I've been lucky enough that there have been NO complications from my surgery (30 years ago), and I played competitive sports through college without a problem. I never really saw a risk. But this got me wondering if it IS something that others have been advised to be vigilant about? I've never met anyone that has had the same "condition", so I don't really have a frame of reference. Thanks in advance.
