  • It annoys me that come Christmas morning, Santa gets all the credit.

I was going to make all but one present from Santa but DH says to do just one from Santa for this reason. I think I'll probably win on this issue since I'm wrapping presents.

hmmm...I've wrapped ALL the presents from Santa. Should some come from us too?! I didn't realize that was a thing...

At least one. Apparently I was very upset one year that my parents got me "nothing" for Christmas.
Ugh. Do you think he'll notice at age 3? I hate to unwrap something.

I wouldn't worry about it. All of our gifts growing up were from Santa. I never questioned why my parents didn't get us anything.

People who have been on TB longer than like two weeks should be able to use the quote button when responding to someone. It's not that hard.

Don't hate. I had no idea. I've always done the @ thing. The quote is so much easier bc I don't have to keep going back to check if I have the person'a name right.

    @theresat858

Really?  Obviously there will be a time where they learn you and DH are Santa, and it will be at at time where they may be able to better appreciate and be thankful for the material possessions you gave them every Christmas.  It's not like Santa gets all the credit indefinitely.

I like the @ thing bc on mobile the quotes start to get ridiculous to scroll through
I don't think she means quote button vs. @ - I think it's when people post after hitting "reply" thinking that they are somehow replying to that exact message and that exact user when that's not the case - "quote" or @ must be used.

And I agree.  There's nothing like a message that just says "I agree with you." or "you're wrong" and you have no idea who is "you" is in that case.
Yeah, this is what I meant. The @ thing is fine.

We only do one Santa gift!!! We pick off their list, we also have special Santa bags so they're different/separate than all our wrapped gifts.

I saw a thing on Facebook that said that gifts from Santa should be small so that when kids go back to school and talk about what Santa brought, the less fortunate kids are not questioning why they only got something small from Santa but somebody else got a whole bunch from Santa. It said the big stuff should come from you. I was one of those less fortunate and would say what I got and then say I couldn't remember the rest just so it didn't look like I didn't get much.

At this stage of awareness, were you close to knowing that he's not real?
My DD is 5, almost 6, skeptical as hell because her brain is just too logical, but she still believes and would wonder why someone got 3 Santa gifts and she only got one, but wouldn't be aware enough of the difference to feel bad about it.

In the spirit of Christmas: my UO, I don't like being judged for putting up my decorations in November! It's the Christmas season, it gets dark early and the weather's gloomy and Christmas makes me happy!
    My house, my rules.

This is me and since thanksgiving was kind of later this year I started decorating the weekend before. Since we get a real tree I don't get to do that till the 2nd week in December so it's not completely dead by Christmas.

I read something earlier about giving your children the bigger and more expensive gifts from you so other kids won't feel bad if Santa didn't bring them much.

@lrobi13‌ so agree on people who buy themselves everything. It makes shopping so stressful trying to come up with a meaningful gift. This year was easy for the g-parents because of all the new baby, I made everyone calendars n stuff

My MIL always does this and it seems worse near the holidays. She'll point out something she likes around thanksgiving time and then will buy it for herself a week before ChristImas. It's maddening!
The other thing that drives me crazy is my ILs can never wait until the actual holiday (or birthday). Call me crazy but it makes the day less special if you have opened the gifts days before
  • So it's not just my family. Apologizing for not giving enough presents (when you're giving a ton) and complaining about how money's tight so "we didn't give you guys much this year"...when in reality it's quite a lot and if you couldn't have afforded these gifts why did you buy them?!...it's a real thing? :-?? • Re: Santa, only the contents of our stockings were from Santa. Growing up we had 3 Christmases, but only one stocking on xmas morning, so I think it was just easier to explain. I'm also not a fan of "sorry we couldn't do more this year, but here's an ipad!". DH and I cut our present budget significantly, but we're not apologizing for it or discussing it with others. If people aren't grateful for the gifts, then they can suck it.

UO: I am not looking forward to Christmas this year.

Most of our traditions aren't happening this year bc my grandmother is having surgery the 22nd. DD will be too young to realize what's going on. Our big Christmas Eve party was moved to the 19th & we can't go bc LO already had a doctor's appointment (we live in another state). The only thing that's the same is that we are still running the 5k for charity on Christmas Eve morning.

  • @2goingon3‌ I was a little older than the average kid before finding out Santa wasn't real. I don't remember the exact age but I remember kids at school telling me this and I didn't believe them. My brother finally told me one Christmas Eve.

We were taught that my mum paid for most of the gifts and Santa looks after them, wraps and delivers. We had a few gifts from santa too.
This was only because we didn't have a lot of money and she didn't want us to question why a kid at school got more.
Which could lead to 'why does Santa prefer that kid?'
I Quite like this. As i will not be buying my kid an Ipad by age 4.

UO : I don't like it when kids that young have Ipads, phones etc. They may as well be in front of the TV if they are still looking at a screen. I like old school toys that you have to do more with. Teaching cause and effect etc.

We got my almost 3 year old his own kids Kindle for Christmas. He loves mine and plays a ton of educational games on it. DS is CRAZY smart and he just keeps learning from the apps on the Kindle. I figure we can't avoid technology forever and I bet once he's in school, everything will be electronic anyways :)

This. The kids kindle is fucking awesome. What's the difference between doing puzzles and playing memory games on a kindle or the old fashioned way?
