Cervadil and induction

I have developed High blood pressure issues and possible preeclampsia and my Dr. Has decided to induce me next Friday, I will be 39 weeks. The plan is to begin with the cervadil gel the night before to start the process. Has anyone been through this before? I know the risks of being induced and I'm anxious about being in labor for so long ( the Dr. Said baby may not be here until Saturday). Just wondering how things went for other moms in the same boat.

I did. I went in Monday night and they gave me cervadil. By noon Tuesday not much had happened so they inserted a balloon cathader and within half an hour my contractions started, 4-5 hours later my water broke and I got my epi. By 11pm by labor stalled so they started pitocin and by 1am I was ready to start pushing. My dd got stuck after 2.5 hours of pushing and her heart rate was dropping everytime I pushed so I ended up with a c/s, but it had nothing to do with being induced, I apparently have a very narrow/funnel shaped birth canal. So yes, it was a long process but I wasn't in active labor for the first 12 hours.

I had cervadil with DS, it was put in at noon on Saturday. Contractions didn't start until 6am on Sunday. It was removed then and I was put on pitocin

I was induced starting at 41weeks, 3 days because it was a few days before Christmas and everyone wanted baby out. In retrospect, not a great reason of course. I did an overnight of cervadil which got me to about 50% effaced. No contractions during this time. Started pitocin at 8 am. I was just not making progress and we discussed if nothing happened by 5pm, we would stop the pitocin and do another overnight of cervadil. But water broke at 4:45pm so we continued on. Pitocin was awful and painful, finally got an epidural around 11pm after pitocin was all the way up as high as they would turn it and only had gotten to 75% and 2cm. I had a c/s just after midnight when the doctor was encouraging it. I wish you the best of luck but induction with an unfavorable cervix is tough and so many fail and end up with a c/s. In retrospect, i would a) not have had an elective induction (obv not your choice), b) have requested another insertion of cervadil if I'd only gotten to 50% and c) kept laboring longer after my epidural and not listened to my doctor pushing for a c/s. Hoping your situation is more favorable.

I was induced with my first son. they started me on the gel at night and the next morning when the doctor came in they were planning on starting Pitocin. well all it took was the gel to get things started. I had the gel inserted about 7 pm on a Friday night and by 10 pm I started having mild contractions. I continued to have contraction all night long they got worst and worst my water broke on its own at 4 in the morning. after my water broke contractions were very intense, by 530 am I had got epidural. when Dr. came in at 7 I was told I was 3cm and going to be in labor all day because I was FTM. but little did they know at 10 am my son was born! good luck.

I was started on cervidil, at 41.5 weeks, around 10 pm.  Didn't do enough, so the next morning we started pitocin and went up slowly, incrementally.  It kicked in about 4 hours into the drip -  I labored for 5 hours, pushed for just over 2 and delivered vaginally with no epidural.  The med-free birth was my plan and I had prepared for it but I can understand where an epidural might have been requested!

Anyways, my point is that inductions can go well, if it is medically necessary then make that decision with your dr and talk about what all the different possible ways it might go are, so you feel prepared and involved in the process.

I was induced for hypertension as well. I actually got Cytotec the night before to ripen my cervix. It didn't do much - I got to about 2cm and 75% effaced with it. The nurses started the pitocin in the morning and slowly increased the dosage. I requested the epidural once I hit 4cm, at about noon. While waiting for the anesthesiologist my OB broke my water. The next time I was checked, at around 2:30, I was 8cm. I started pushing around 4:30PM and DS was born at 5:21PM.

I was induced at 40+2 with DD, got my cervadil at 5PM, got my cervadil taken out at 7PM because it had thrown me into full blown labor, no pitocin needed. DD arrived at 4:56 AM the next morning.

This exact scenario happened in my second pregnancy. I started Cervidil the night before, and was crampy all night long, and couldn't sleep. Then around 10 the next morning, my doc started Pitocin, and I had my daughter at 9 pm. It sucked. I was in so much pain and then I had an allergic reaction to the epidural and I kept throwing up and my entire body was itchy. I felt like I was going nuts. I honestly couldn't tell you what was more miserable- the pain or all the crap I had to go through because of that damn epi.
