Would you TTC around a job?

A friend of mine is a director for where she works and told me a couple of months ago that there is a position coming up that she thinks I'd be perfect for.  It would be a great career move for me and I'd be much closer to home.  The thing that sucks is that she has no idea when the position will open.  They are in the middle of building the location where they are moving this particular branch which was supposed to be done this month but now it might be awhile.

Originally we'd planned to start TTC three months after I got hired (thinking I would be hired this month if I got hired) so that I'd be eligible for FMLA.  Now I don't know what to do.  Do we hold off TTC?  Then if the job opens up in a couple of months and I don't even get it then we'll have postponed for nothing.  Would it be worse to be pregnant and then get the job only to take maternity leave soon after?  I don't want to wait too long because I don't want the spacing to be too far apart and at this point DS will be 3 when the next baby arrives.

I just don't know what to do!

  • we tried to, but it took 8 months so it didn't turn out that way
  • I have successfully twice. I've planned to get pg in July, so my babies would be due in March/April. That way my maternity leave will run right into summer vacation, giving me 4-5 mo. off with him/her.

  • I wouldn't put off TTC.  Things work out the way they are supposed to and if you are ready for another baby I wouldn't put that on hold for a job that may or may not happen.
  • I wouldn't but only because you just never know how long it could take you.

  • To make it even worse I only have one pill pack left and then we were going to not actively TTC for a few months but if it happened then great.  So, now I have to really make a final decision about renewing my perscription or not!  UHHH!

. Ditto. I'm not sure what I would do in your situation though. Being a teacher, for Me, it is an easy choice. L was a perfectly timed surprise.

  • I guess I'm going to be the only poster to say, yes, I would postpone TTC. I would probably give it 6mths, see if the new branch happens. You should know one way or another by then, and your kids would still only be 3.5yrs apart.
  • Both times we TTC'ed the timing wasn't totally ideal for my job.  But we decided that we'd go along with OUR plans because you can always find something in the way.  We made a very conscious decision to just go ahead with it and have faith things would work out.
