  • I ran once for 4.1mi and it felt like my pubic bone separated. I was in pain the day of and day after but have since recovered. I even ran with my support band. I may need to try to go multiple times for shorter distances now.

GTKY: I've only done a few races and have 1 metal. If I start getting more, I will prob create a closet display similar to yours.
  • My runs were not bad. I ran 3 times for a total if 7.5 miles. I got a head cold sometime around Wednesday and only ran 1 time after that. Still slow and steady tho!

GTKY: haven't really "won" anything... I have only done 5 or so 5ks. I don't keep my bibs either... Maybe someday I'll do a half or something... I'm impressed @babygabe614!
  • hey ladies!  i ran a few times last week and felt pretty good.  i run a lot outside and some during the bootcamp classes i take.  i think incorporating yoga has really helped me with the increased aches and pains.  i recommend adding a class or two if you haven't tried that yet.

i have ran several races and i love that @babygabe614 has displayed hers!  mine are in a shoebox and there are many that i feel so proud of that i should find a creative way to display them.  my favorite races are 10Ks, not too long, not too short.  although i don't know if i can currently run 6+ miles lol :)

  • Last week wasn't a great week for me.  Started off the week with 2 good runs, had a day on the elliptical and ended the week with 3 miserable runs.  My last run was on Friday and I was on the treadmill for 20 minutes and probably walked 15 of them.  I was so defeated and ended up crying on the treadmill (thankfully I was the only one in there!).  I thought that I was not going to be able to run again until after birth, BUT had a good run this morning so I'm not done yet!  I do have to remember that I am nearing 3rd tri and any day could be my last run day and it's normal to begin to slow down even more.  Just taking it one day at a time now!

Here are some of my medals displayed in my living room!  I have a drawer full of them so these are just my favorite medals!

I'm been starting to really think about my comeback to running this summer and it's getting me excited.  I will be ordering this shoes for the occasion!

  • My one run last week was decent, 3 miles. Other than that, lots of walking, some lifting and hiking. I have acquired quite the collection of race medals, as well as DH, and right now we have them hanging on his and hers sides of an armoire in our bedroom. I'd like to get a cute one from Etsy though- they have tri specific ones too!

  • @babygabe614 - You live in the Philly area right?  If so, do you ever run with the BOMF group?

@kinipela7 No, I run with an all female group out in the 'burbs. Bomf is a wonderful organization, though. Several races I've participated in have had them as a charity beneficiary.

  • @kinipela7 is bomf a national organization? I haven't heard of chapters outside of Philly. Do you run with/for them where you are??

They have a few chapters all over the US I believe.  I live outside of DC and I know DC has one as well. Hear a lot about them but its just too far for me to get into!

  • Hey ladies! I'm curious when/if you plan or have been advised to stop running? Can you continue right through, as long as your body will take you?

I hear you! I volunteer and fundraise for Girls on the Run and raised money for them when I ran the Philly marathon in November, but I was able to do it through my local chapter. If it had been in the city I couldn't have participated at the same level. I'm on their 5k committee now which again is through my local council. That's another great organization to get involved with if you have a council near you!

@Mrs.C.V. my OBs have told me to continue running as long as I'm still doing it comfortably. They don't have any specific cutoff date and I hope to continue for the entirety of my pregnancy, if possible. I'm just listening to my body and being smart about speed and distance so I don't get injured.

Ohh yes I have heard about GOTR too and I think it's great!  I think I will definitely get involved with that one at some point!  That's great that you are involved with them!

Everyone is different, but as long as the doc okays it you should be able to run for as long as you feel comfortable.  Some people make it to the very end, and some people do not.

  • That's awesome! I started running in September so decided not to continue thru pregnancy since my body wasn't used to it. Still riding my horse daily though and feeling good :) I like to creep on the running thread and see everyone being so active! It motivates be to get out to the barn. Lol. I could start a weekly riding check in but I think I would be pretty lonely.
  • I had a great week of running with 40 miles. However, Sunday and today were a different story. My legs felt heavy and terrible. My belly was cramping and I was constantly feeling the need to pee so I quit. I'm,nervous about how much weight I'm gaining despite a lot of activity and how much more I'm going to gain when I have to inevitably cut back. I know I need to just accept it and most days I do because all I really care about is my baby. But some days are harder:)
  • Hi! I ran until 18 weeks. I was running 3.5-4 miles a day, 4x week. It got icy and awful here and my cervix is measuring thinner so I had to stop. I'm going to yoga and carrying around a 2 yr old and 5 yr old ( though I don't really carry him) and now I have restless legs!!!!!! I also have dreams where I'm in the middle of running. If anyone reads this, let me know what you think... If I'm having a cesarean at the start of June, can I run a half marathon at the end of September? Too soon?

It's one of those things where it's going to be different for everyone.  My friend had a c-section on December 21 and was back to running (only 2 miles at a time) last week.  If it were me, I would not run a half marathon in September if I was having a c-section in June. You wouldn't be able to start running again until mid-July (if everything is perfect) and you will be starting with a very low base plus taking care of a newborn.  For me, that would be too much, but for you it might not be!

  • I can relate to some of you ladies- definitely getting slower and slower, and needing to run/walk my "runs." I also live in New England, and am an outdoor runner, so ice and snow have kept me slow and careful! I've got in perhaps 2 runs this week, but have done yoga and also went snowshoeing, which is a serious leg workout for me! I have an update on the support band/peeing issues: I've been wearing the Gabrialla support band to run, shovel snow, and snowshoe. While I'm not 100% back pain free! the pain is minimized. The band, positioned low on my belly, helps me have to pee less (I.e. After 2 miles instead of 1, on average). It has also helped to do intervals: run 1/2 mile, power walk 1/2, repeat. I can do these intervals for at least 3 miles before I have to pee! I hope this helps anyone facing a similar problem. As for races, I like 5ks, 10-12ks. I'm not into half and fulls! I'm just pokey. I don't save my bibs, and I've definitely never won medals, but I have friends who display them on a cork board with a picture frame around it. So cute. :) Nice work ladies!
  • I ran 3.5 miles this a.m and felt great- one of those days that I felt like I could run forever!  Unfortunately I had to go to work  ;)  But now I am having some crotch pain.  Plan to do lower impact (walking, strength circuit) for a couple days before running again.

Like pp, I plan to run as long as my body will allow me!  My short term goal is to run up until the third tri- hopefully longer.  Taking it one run at a time and listening to my body, giving myself plenty of time to recover in between runs and lots of lower impact activity (walking, swimming, cycling, strength training) to supplement.

  • I love this page! I had to hang up my beloved running shoes in the first trimester but am ITCHING for a run! I walk on the treadmill, use the elliptical, swim, and have been snowshoeing with the pups...but it doesn't take the place of that love run.
I am a FTM & signed up for a 1/2 marathon the end of September hoping that delivery goes well in June and goes a little earlier than my due date :-)
So can't wait! For this little new running partner to arrive!!:-)
  • This thread is amazing! I am so impressed by you guys. The snow and my hatred of treadmills has made me back off of running and I'm hoping so hard that I'm not too big by the time it melts! Last time I only ran till 20 weeks because I felt like I was going to pee my pants when I ran...haha. So I really need to look into a support band, thanks for that, @nicolinab!

@JuneRunner14 There was no way I would've been able to train for and run a half marathon less than 4 months after having a baby! But my boobs were so big and milky for the first few months that running wasn't easy and I didn't up my mileage right away. Everyone is different!
