Re: TLC: I didn't know I was pregnant

  • I know a girl who sayd she didn't know she was pregnant/ doctors told her she wasn't pregnant till she was like 6 months... though in some of her photo's she did look pregnant(not in a mean way) but actually looked like a baby bump not fat. the other thing was she told my other friend at her daughters 1st birthday she though she was pregnant which would have been around the time she got pregnant.

  • I am an ER doctor and I have seen my share of "toilet babies".  There are some definitely some people who seem to legitimately have no idea they are pregnant and go on to give birth, thinking they are constipated, have ovarian cysts or have appendicitis.  I have definitely rushed to the triage area to fish a baby out of the toilet or moms pants, seeing the woman crying and screaming that they didn't know.  Having been pregnant, I don't understand it because I felt like I knew i was pregnant 5 minutes after the sperm met the egg j/k- but thats just me.  After taking to them they seem to connect the dots- with their symptoms and the timeline, but WOW...

  • One of my friends from high school claims that she didn't know she was pregnant until delivery. One night she was having horrible stomach cramps. Her mom took her to the ER, Dr did blood tests, told her she was Prego but that she had options. He did a cervical exam and she was dilated to a 4! She is a bigger girl and her weight fluctuates a lot. She claims that she had regular periods and had no clue that she was pregnant. Craziness in my opinion.

I have a friend who is one of twins. The two girls were conceived 2 months apart and she didn't know until she was 8 weeks pregnant with the second baby. She had a period and, obviously, ovulated, despite being pregnant. One was born at term and the other was premature. This blows my mind!

How is this even possible?! You can't get pregnant once you're pregnant right?! I'd be pregnant with fifty babies right now if that's the case.

That is not possible. She's not a cat! You don't ovulate when you're pregnant!

It's possible when you are born with 2 uteruses (uteri?). It isn't common, but it's happened often enough in the news. Google it.
I had to Google: https://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1926414,00.html.  Apparently it is possible with only one uterus.  Creepy.

I don't know if she was born with an extra uterus or not, but was told that the mom was still ovulating and getting her period after the first pregnancy started. One of the girls was a nicu baby, because she was premature. The other was perfectly full term and normal.

  • It's totally possible, but exceedingly rare, to ovulate while pregnant, and you end up with fraternal twins, assuming the second is close enough to viability.

My BF's step sister is a VERY heavy girl, and while she knew she was pregnant, I have to be honest and say that looking at her at 9 months, you couldn't really see bump, it just kind of blended in (I realize that sounds horrible, but it's the truth, and I do love her to death).  The baby was over 12 lbs too.  So I can see an obese woman (who is also less likely to get regular cycles) not knowing about being pregnant.
