Question for UK mums...

Hi all, I'm trying to transition my 6wk old daughter from breast milk to formula, and we need to fly to the UK in two weeks. I was going to order some formula online to ship to my in-laws, but it looks like the one we use (Similac Advance) is not sold in the UK? Aaaa. Can anyone let me know what the most common early infant/newborn formula is (probably whey based with DHA)?

Re: Question for UK mums...

  • Hey.

I use Aptimal First Infant Formula. It is the most expensive whey based DHA formula. It is £11.99 for a 900g tub. We use it for Michael.

The second most common is Cow and Gate Stage One. According to my Dr and Midwife it is exactly the same as Aptimal but cheaper at £7.99 for a 900g tub.

You can buy both in smaller tubs or ready made cartons.

    Hope this helps!

  • Your welcome my dear :)
  • Hi, we use Aptimal too. As frankierokx says it is the most expensive but it seems to agree with my little one!
  • I've just been thinking. Are you bringing your bottles over with you or are you buying bottles here in the UK? The American version of an oz is bigger than ours. Both of the formula above you add one scoop per oz of water so if you use your american oz bottles the measurements won't add up correctly. I hope this is making some sort of sence? :)

If you have the Avent bottles, they have the UK oz and US oz markers on them. Just something to consider before you head over across the pond.

@rfred20 I was looking at my advent bottle when the measurement difference came to me!
  • @frankierokx and @rfred20 Thank you so much for reminding me - yes I have a few Avent bottles and will definitely bring those instead of the Tommee Tippees we have. Great catch.
