So, a recently watched episode of Myth Busters has scared me out of using sponges to clean my dishes. I'm not a germaphobe at all, but they made sponges look pretty terrifying. What do you use to clean your dishes?

  • Dish cloth.  Honestly sponges have always grossed me out and I have enough dish cloths that I don't have to do laundry all that often.

  • I said sponge, but I really only wash pots and pans by hand, just about everything else goes in the dishwasher.  Sponges kind of gross me out too, so I don't use them for very long before replacing them, but I try to get over it by telling myself that the things I wash with a sponge end up getting heated to the point of killing germs from the sponge anyway (I'm not an expert or a scientist or a germ specialist so I don't know if this is actually true, but it is what I tell myself.)

  • Dishwasher mostly but I also have a dish wand that dispenses soap through the handle. It has a sponge as the tip but I put SS cause we don't use it a lot.

  • I use a sponge; a new one every two weeks. I run it in the dishwasher at least once a week, and I microwave it once during its two week life span.

  • a small dishrag, when i'm done washing dishes i use it to clean the counters and hang it to dry.  once dry gets tossed in a basket under the sink.  it's one extra load every two weeks, so not much laundry at all.

  • I run my sponges through the dishwasher every couple of weeks and replace them every couple of months.

I think we're too scared of germs as a society.

  • I use a sponge. I only use it for pots and pans as well as other things I can't put in the dishwasher. I don't use it to clean counters and I either sanatize it in the microwave or dishwasher or throw it out if it starts to smell.

  • SS- I have a scrub brush with bristles and one with steel wool for tough stuff. Scrub them off, put them in the dish washer with the brushes.

;)  I'm an exteremly vulgar and sarcastic person IRL... Just FYI, I don't use this for my dishes or my vag

I use a sponge &/or brush of sorts to wash dishes but same here, mostly everything goes into the dishwasher. Except pots, pans and my "good" knifes.

  • My husband. :-D

He uses a brush to get the food off and then loads most things in the dishwasher. He uses a brush or dishcloth on the things that can't go in the dishwasher.

  • I've heard that if you microwave a sponge for like 15 or 30 seconds when its wet it kills all the bacteria... Not sure if this is true...

  • Sponge. I microwave the sponge every few days and replace them fairly often, but I'm really just not that freaked out by germs.
