edited February 2014 in High-Risk Pregnancy
I failed the last 2 hrs by a few points. My dr said he doesn't think I have gd but it's protocol to either do 3 hr again or get see peri.
Idk what to do. What do you guys think?

  • If your insurance will cover I would go ahead with the peri :) more chances to see the baby and an expert in case things develop.

  • I had the 1 hour (failed 143)  then passed the 3 hour.  then because i had a 9 lb baby before they made me take the test again.  i asked if i could just do the 1 hr and they said yes.  well i failed it at 143 again. they were going to have me do the 3 hour again and i said no.  i hate that test.  so im just going to buy it and follow the diet.  it will be healthier anyway.

  • I'd see the peri. I hated the 3hr. I only failed my fasting value but have elected to check sugars for a while and generally stick to the GD diet. So far my fastings are fine, but I did have an elevated post meal sugar after a higher carb/sugar lunch. In the end, I'd rather monitor and know I'm ok than not know. It's certainly a continuum without a clear black and white cut off, that's why the tests are kind of arbitrary. I also didn't like the idea of putting 100g of glucose in my body again, it just didn't feel healthy.

  • Hi there.  I failed the 3 hour by the skin of my teeth too. I chose to take the diagnosis because the sugar drink made me SO sick afterwards.  My sugar numbers were usually ok during my pregnancy with the exception of a few (buy I usually knew exactly what I ate to cause that).  I now look at it like a blessing in disguise.  I gave birth to a healthy 6lb 5oz baby in November and my baby weight (and then some) just FELL OFF afterwards.  I think it was just my metabolism working really well after following the diet and eating every few hours.  Good luck!

  • I'm in the same boat. I had to go see the nurse and she gave me the glucose monitor with instructions to check my sugars four times a day. It's a PITA, but it's not as big of a deal as I thought it would be. Better safe than sorry? Good luck and hugs :(
