Vomiting as cold symptom?

For the past two days DS has had what I assumed was a mild cold -- just lots of thick, cloudy yellow nasal discharge with no other symptoms. He doens't have a fever, and he's still eating and playing normally. Then this evening he threw up twice in the space of 15 minutes. We really had no warning. It seemed to sneak up on him both times. He said "eww" afterward but didn't cry or act like he still felt sick. Then he threw up again about 15 minutes later, I guess just what was left in his stomach. Again, no real warning and no apparent discomfort immediately after.

I know that spitting up is a fairly normal side effect of nasal discharge in infants, but what about toddlers? Would swallowing all that snot make a 2-year-old throw up too? I'm really hoping he doesn't have two bugs at once. For his sake and for mine too, since I'm pregnant.

Re: Vomiting as cold symptom?

  • Yea he could be throwing up bc of the snot. I would just keep an eye on him. My nurse friend told me benadryl also helps with nausea/vomiting. Which might help him with his cold too. Good luck!

  • Thanks, @jlpev. I hadn't thought of Benadryl.
