Crib in our bedroom?

This might be a silly question, but I see many posts about people using a pack n play in their bedroom for the first few months, and I was wondering if it's OK to have the crib in your bedroom for the first few months instead? I plan on purchasing a pack n play for downstairs use, but instead of lugging it up and down the steps each day, I was thinking we could just bring the regular crib from the nursery into our bedroom. I don't plan on buying a gigantic/ornate crib -- probably the child craft london euro one. I just wasn't sure if there was some other reason people use the pack n play instead of a crib besides the size factor?

Re: Crib in our bedroom?

  • I think most people use a pnp in their rooms instead of a full crib because the size and portability.

  • I would probably just keep the PNP in your room and the crib in the nursery.  You may not know when you are going to start having the baby sleep in their room and it would be easier if it was just set up for whenever that is.  I don't see why you would lug the PNP everyday... wouldn't you just keep it wherever you are using it?

  • I wouldn't get another crib. We used our PnP downstairs and had a cradle for our room so we didn't have to do stairs. The cradle was a nice easy to access height for me to use when my back hurts. It's nice to be able to have the baby easily accessible when you are doing things around the house and not running up and down stairs.

  • We are getting a bedside crib. Basically so I don't have to get out of bed to do nighttime feelings or go to far for changings. The baby can only use it for so long before they outgrow it but were on our first so we hopefully should get use out of it.
  • My husband and I live in a one bedroom apartment. We are getting the full size child craft London and putting it in our room. PnP will be in the living room. Do what you feel is best!!
  • Thanks for the feedback!
  • We had the crib in our room until DD was 5 months old. And didn't even use a pnp except for traveling. She slept in a bouncy chair when not in her room. The only reason people are saying to have the pnp in your room is because that's what works for them. If you prefer having the crib in your room, go for it! :)
